There are 231 cubic inches in a gallon of liquid so your dimentions 9"x12"x1.5"
equals 162 cubic inches, 1 quart equals 57.75 ci, so 162 ci divided by 57.75 equals appx. 2.8 quarts (I think)

the vintage adapter is hub concentric (spelling?)...
the vintage adapter is hub concentric (spelling?) meaning the hub helps support the load but the holes are tapered
