I used an 8" Hurst shifter turned forward. It comes with a 3" bend to the rear but for the Cobra I turned it the other way to resemble the original shape and get it in the correct position.

apples and oranges. Any "new" vehicle has to pass current year requirements for lighting, safety, smog, airbags etc. SB100 is specifically to provide an exception for custom/home built vehicles...

With that kind of torque you don't need...

Gear change will require pinion depth and backlash be reset.
Might not be a bad idea to change bearings while in there.
