427 Block

As far as I know the 427 blocks cast for aftermarket by Ford use did not or might not have "casting" numbers on them, just the date code casting. I've had two '73 blocks that do not have casting...

Vanilla Build?

Good point, I've ever seen a blue or red Cobra w/stripes, a roll bar, side pipes and a 600 hp motor that requires ear plugs to drive down the road (aka the "vanilla build") :)

FE or Coyote

FE: It's very difficult to identify a 390 from a 427, when it's put together and in an engine bay. If you use Aluminum heads and an Aluminum intake, it's not that heavy. The FE is a great engine...

Engine

Flygirl,

Good luck with your build, My favorite replica is an ERA with undercar exhaust. With respect to engines; keep in mind Shelby used whatever he could get. Sideoilers, 428's and a few...

Broken Crank

I think the cast iron would have been just as bad. Aluminum can be welded easier, so it should be a safer choice. Sounds like in your case, it's beyond repair. It would be nice to see lots of...

Aluminum Blocks Good for 10K Miles Before Rebuild

Been a while since I've been around, I hope everyone's getting ready for spring rides!

I've been told that the historic problem with aluminum heads, blocks etc. is that the machining requirements...

Cash for Clunkers

It takes more energy to make a new car than any car will ever burn in gas. So if you have a clunker, driving it ito the ground is the best thing for the environment regardless of the MPG. Getting a...

Remembering being snubbed...

My dad always had & loved Corvettes. We owned a fairly rare '69 big block in the early '80s that must have blown the engine when it was still very new, and it had a ''69 or '70 dated CE block that...

Where are you coming from?

Factory Five is a great bunch of people, Including Dave Smith. Unless you own a Shelby, you should be happy that one kit car company has the funds, and business savvy to keep this cottage industry...

if your making party favors it's OK, but other than that I don't know how a serious business could use this service.

There is a need for shops more set up for prototype work.

427 Block

Their is a good chance it is a replacement block and it would not have a number beyond the date code listed on the area where the block is machined to place the oil filter.

Some pictures would...

Why?

Why would you do that?

My project is taking way too long to get off the ground, and I have two 427 blocks and lots of parts, but I have been thinking that for the driving I will probably do, a 390...

I always heard that Nissan was afraid the car may be a flop, and did not want to risk the "Nissan" brand name. I have never heard how the Datsun name came about though. Now I know :)

Cars

Mid year vettes were considered junk by a lot of people in the early 70's. My dad bought a running one in good shape for $100, but the headlights would not go up and down and he did not even bother...

Cars and their value

Just a little perspective/humor, not exactly accurate, but from the fifties on try naming a car that is worth a lot of money now that was not considered a POS in its day or shortly there after. The...

Engines for Cobra

IMHO:

What I love about Cobra's is that because it's a Kit Car (Replica) it is each persons interpretation of their dream.

Where I think it gets challenging is that we all feel that we need to...

FEA is a great tool

For David K.

Out of curiosity, do you strain guage any of your designs and stress them in a way that let's you compare actual results to your FEA results. It would be fun to see pictures of...
