it is pin 67 that drives the evap solenoid and 71 (red) if it is working properly it will tick away at idle, hook solenoid between engine vacum and canister hook the upper most outlet...

Definetly put the battery in the boot
As for your oil cooler Speco make sandwich plates with fitting for oil temp and pressure and i think they also have the fittings in them for the cooler

Mine still runs on when you turn the battery switch off ,
I tried diodes but didn't seem to work, eventually after a while it switches off
but its really not good enough in case of an accident...
