1986 NAF COBRA 427SC
This Cobra Kit-Car was professionally built by Golden West Motor Sports in Hayward, CA in 1986. Care was taken from the start to build as close a replica as possible to encompass the performance and the excitement of the original. Better brakes, suspension, and cooling were added to make it more drivable. The engine was built by Souza Brothers, a well-known Ford performance engine builder. A 428 engine was selected because of its durability and drivability. Balanced and blueprinted, the engine puts out a lot of torque. In 2000 the engine and transmission were completely rebuilt and new aluminum heads with port matched intakes and roller rockers were added. Two new Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetors were added as well, giving this monster over 600 HP! Engine and transmission have less than 3000 miles on them.
BODY: Fiberglass, hand laminated and jig bonded.
FRAME: Box steel jig welded.
ENGINE: 428 Ford Balanced and Blueprinted.
TRANSMISSION: C6 Automatic with 350 rear end gears.
SUSPENSION: Front - Mustang II with coil over shocks, 11" disc brakes. Rear - Ford 9" floating axle with 5-bar link adjustment. 11" disc brakes, coil over shocks.
COOLING: 4-core radiator, Oberg racing oil filter with front mounted oil cooler. Twin front cooling fans. Heat shielding along firewall.
HONORS: 1987 1st Place Oakland Roadster Show; 1989 2nd Place Oakland Roadster Show; 1986 1st Place California Kit Car Show.
