Description: I have a damaged 427 rear clip that came with a project I bought. According to the guy I got it from, the clip is off an original CSX3XXX car, but I cannot independently verify that. I have no idea what it is worth, but would ideally like to trade it for a similar condition 289 rear clip. I know that is asking a lot but if there is not one of those available, I will let it go to the best offer. I am located in Santa Barbara, Ca and can provide more pics if interested.

Interesting. Fender edges look like a street car and you can see the holes for the roll bar, but where's the hole for the fuel filler neck? Le Mans S/C type or the smaller street style. Is there a patch on the inside where it was filled in that would give a hint as to which one?

Kurt,
I hadn't noticed the gas tank hole before and there is no patch. I just checked the registry for the name of the guy who the clip originally came from and it turns out he owns a 2xxx series car and not a 3xxx series Cobra. The writeup in the registry is consistent with what I have here (guardsman blue, white stripes, body changed to a FIA style rear) so I think the guy I bought it from was on the up and up except he told me the wrong series.

The gas filler is there.... just ahead of the forward part of the trunk lid, between the stripes. This rear body section looks like it was taken of a 2000 series car. Back in the mid 70's some owner actually went with the 427 rear body parts and 289 front body parts with FIA style or 427 front flare, 289 nose. This rear body section might be off a car once owned by Steve Cooper.... which was an early worm & sector car converted to rack and pinion, powered by a boss 302. I can call Steve to see if this belonged to him at one time. As for the 289 rear body section, I know someone who has aluminum body section, I will check with him in the am to see if he is interested in a trade.

I have many inquiries into the heritage on this clip so I did some research and called the Cobra owner that this supposedly came from originally. aHe confirms (without seeing a pic of the clip) the story that I was told when I received this, except it is from CSX2543 not a 3xxx series car. The PO removed this clip after being rear ended and replaced it with a cut back door FIA clip on 2534. This clip's center section is an original slab side section that the owner welded some flares from McCluskey to make what is here. Hope this clarifies things a bit.
