I believe they are for the "vertically challenged," or just one if a single leg is significantly shorter than the other. Which hearkens me back to an old friend of mine who had one leg that was much shorter than the other. It was a disability all his life, until he began to go blind. It was only then that it actually became an asset. He could go for long walks, even though he was blind, and he would always circle back to where he began. Yep, never got lost; not even once.
