460 running temps
 
Mine with a copper 5 core high eff radiator runs around 190 degrees.no matter how it is driven.

With Standard SPF radiator, my Ford 460 crate motor runs 180 highway and 200 in traffic.

Running Temp
 
Ok I can give you 2 experiences. The first not so good the second much better.

I had a 557 which never ran cool even when it was 60 out. No matter what I did. So when I took that out and built a 501 mild cam I changed a few things.

I made sure the builder understood the temp issues and the cramped space. I have a Mezeire hgh flow electric water pump. With a 160 t-stat and holes drilled in it. The car has been running so cool that I am considering moving up to a 170. On the highway with no fan on I run at 160-170, in trafiic I move to 180 with the fan on and it does not go up from there. In the dead heat of the summer the hotest I saw was 200 in bumper to bumper traffic for about 30min.

Note, if a tstat opens at 195F it does not fully close to 185F if you are running a 160 stat i would go to a 180 stat. Do not use the mr. gasket balanced thermostats, even when closed they allow tremendous flow, you might as well use an orfice plate, just get the cheap tstat for $3.99.

I have been thinking about going with the Mezeire electric pump. Does it work okay on the street?

hello i am new to the forum, but need help with overheating. i have a 429 and large alum 3 core radiator with elec fan, but even for a short drive the coolent is venting from the stationary cap and runs 220 and above? i would fill the coolent but never fails.. its 40 degrees and if im out for 30 min coolent will be covering the engine compartment. nothing is broken or leaking (dry once parked). thanks in advance

Make sure your fan or fans are going in the right direction, there is a difference with the pitch of the fan blades.
