Depends.......the condition will be the big factor in the price of anything and if it's really what they say it is then the price will be whatever the market will bear........

A 70 SCJ what? An engine? A Torino? A Mustang? A Ranchero? Lacking details, details, and photos, I'd say it's worth oh say $100 if the block is usable. Beyond that, well...... You get the idea, Tom |

Hate to say this vaguely myself, but "it depends." Here are two web sites you may get more specific answers from: http://www.460ford.com/forum/ and http://www.429-460.com/forum.htm The engine may be worth more to a restorer if it is completely original and unmolested and includes all the original external parts and accessories. If it has been updated or overhauled in a non-original way it'll be worth less. A good SCJ block by itself will be worth more than a vanilla 460 block if it is a 4-bolt main, thick web block. The only sure way to determine that is to pull the pan and look. If it is verified, and the block sonic checks OK for boring it may be worth upwards of $400; I've seen some for sale as high as $800. For comparison an A460 aftermarket block will be around $2000 new, but can be bored significantly larger, usually. Best I can do, Tom |
I think the most value would be with the original car...if it hasn't been crushed. They had serial numbers on them by then. The second most would be with any 1970 Torino 429 SCJ car. To someone wanting to build, the value is pretty subjective. I recall one we built in the '70s that was bone stock with the exception of the 460 recip assembly. Now that would have given the SS454 Chevelle some fits.
I'd be hawking it on some Torino or SCJ forums...I know there are some. What do YOU want for it?? |
What everyone said above. If you find the right guy that's trying to be true to his build, but he'll want to be sure everything is really SCJ. If you're not 100% sure, there are a few tips and tricks in determining the differnece between an SC and a SCJ, starting with some visual indicators and also the numbers. I have some info that might help if you need it. If possible, get all the numbers you can: block, heads, manifold, crank, rods, and cam. The bonus would be if you can get the door ID tag numbers from the original car.
