Timing Gear Setting

I have a 460 Super Cobra Jet engine from Ford Racing with an M-6250-C460 cam. On the crankshaft timing chain gear it allows for an advance or retard setting. Does anyone know if this cam requires either?

It could be either. Best to set it up with a degree wheel and not focus on the additional keyways unless needed to make the spec the cam card calls for.

Thanks for the article. I have also read that prior to 1973 both the gears were set on zero but after that it should be advanced 4 degrees. I'll have to check further.

I'd give FRPP a call. That cam is still used in the 460 crate motor they sell.

As it would have it, they are closed today, tomorrow and Monday. I guess I won't get much done this weekend. Thanks
