Ford Racing 90° Oil Filter Adapter

I have been unable to get my remote filter mount to stop leaking. It seems to leak both at the threaded nipples on the filter mount, notwithstanding the copious amounts of thread seal applied by the previous owner(s). It also seems to have a bit of seepage at the adapter on the block as well as the oil filter gasket itself.

I'm fed up with the whole mess and looking at the 90° adapter to put the filter back on the block, facing forward and slightly down to clear the hose from the radiator to the water pump.

I am using one on my Daytona Coupe Coyote engine and I will tell you to be sure an lube both o-rings and then gently tighten them down just a little more than hand tight. Over tightening will cut your o-ring and an leak will ensue...and dump a quart in a hurry on your floor. Just sayin!

Clois: Which O-ring did you have trouble with - the larger one against the engine block or the smaller one under the centre tube / nut? I'm thinking the latter, as that rotates as you tighten it.

I received the adapter today from Summit. It appears both O-rings are oversize - the O.D. of both is larger than the groove into which it's supposed to fit. I was able to work them in, but I'm concerned one (or both) may pop out when I'm installing it.

I have an assortment of O-rings which are all slightly larger in cross-section than the ones supplied with the adapter, and I'll be able to find one to fit under the flange of the mounting nut, so that's covered. The one against the block is of greatest concern as it could easily slip out of the groove during installation and not be noticed.

The adapter also arrived with a couple of small dents and scratches on the machined surfaces, probably because the parts were all loose in the box - no paper or padding to separate them.

Overall rating, pre-installation:
o Product: 8/10
o Packaging: 5/10

Will update further once it's installed.

You can put some grease in the groove then place the o ring in the groove, that should keep it in place while you install.

I ran an adapter for remote oil filter and cooler. The O-Rings could be held in place with thin film of silicone in groove held in place set it aside till set up then install.

My plan right now is to use some silicone grease in the groove and be REAL careful not to dislodge the O-rings.

I would use RTV in the lubrication system only as a last resort - chunks of that stuff in small passages is bad news.

Yes it was the smaller one but I went to Autozone and for $4 I bought a package of various sized orings and now it is sealed just fine.

This is much better way to go....because you eliminate at least 2 90* degree turns in that adapter....each 90*turn is worth 10' foot of hose.....use -12 hose...

Installed the adapter today - it took a lot longer getting the old stuff out than it did putting the adapter in. It's important to have a filter on it before you lock it down in final position to make sure you have the clearances you need and that you can actually remove and replace it.

I ran out of time and didn't get time to fire it up to check for leaks. I expect that to happen tomorrow.

Fired it up today - there are no leaks that I can see, so I'm happy with that. No drive though, as rain started just about the time I was ready to roll out of the garage.

Interestingly, oil pressure at fast idle is about 10 PSI higher than it was before. I'm not surprised, given the removal of 3 x 90° elbows, one 45° elbow and about 4 feet of SS braided hose.

It will never bother done the way I mention, seeing it would make it more clear. Not to mention the positive oil pressure at that conection would never allow anything into the oil system.

Cycleguy, I cant get the 90 degree adapter with a full size filter to fit, for some reason the photos you posted will not load. Can you put up some pics of the adapter orientation with the full size filter? I am having a brain fart
