Thanks, Paul. Good info.

I ended up ordering both a water pump and a backing plate from Summit.

Worth mentioning...mine had an edelbrock pump on it. When I changed to a new water pump, the backing plate needed to be different & wouldn't fit the new pump. So, make sure you get a matching back plate.

Woops. I'm not sure I wanted to hear that.

I ordered this Milodon pump https://static.summitracing.com/glob...il-16245_m.jpg and this backing plate https://static.summitracing.com/glob...01-460bp_m.jpg at the same time while on the phone with Summit. I don't suppose that ensures me a matching set, does it?

I think the biggest issue is the impeller size. The impeller on the
Edelbrock was smaller than any of the stock pumps we pulled off the shelf. The backing plate for the edelbrock hit the impeller for any of the stock pumps. The relief on that plate was punched out smaller. I had to order a stock plate so that my pump would turn. Chances are that you won't have an issue. Just make sure you check this before install. Just put the plate up to the back of the pump. If it sits flush & turns freely, you should be fine.

The pump and backing plate arrived today. The indentation on the plate is perfectly sized for the impeller on the Milodon pump. When they're pressed together, the pump is able to spin freely.

Sounds like you're all set!
