My name is Ruslan.
I'm new to this forum. I recently bought a Cobra. I started preparing the car for the summer, but I have problems with the ignition. Can anyone help me sort out the ignition? I want to change the entire distributor with wires. Сan anyone help me tell me exactly what engine I have and where I can buy good parts. End my Cobra foto, end engine foto too |
Мaybe someone knows the history of this car
|
Welcome to the madness.
I can tell you that the cobra replica you have was made by Contemporary, but without some casting numbers from the block and heads, won't be able to tell you the basic engine specifications. Google "Ford engine casting number locations" and get back to us with what you find on your car. Or, see if there is a part number on your distributor and google that to see what it fits, then order it's replacement accordingly. Bill S. |
Cobra.
Senks for fast answer.
I'll try to find the part numbers for the engine and cylinder heads. How can you determine what year of manufacture this car is? I have very little information about this car. Мaybe there are ways to find the history of this car? Best Regards Ruslans Kurecs |

Does anyone know the history of this car?

Aftermarket sticker, does not have anything to do with your car. What is the VIN? Is there a real manufacturer plate from Contemporary Motorcars on the car (usually somewhere in the engine compartment) Does it start with CCX? If so, the VIN as a whole may be able to be used to whittle down a rough date of manufacturer from other known Contemporary Cobra replicas. History might be a bit harder, where was the car purchased out of? Is it in the US, or overseas? Let's start with the VIN, regardless of what it is, and perhaps we as a group can further assist you. There are two threads active on this. It is almost never a good idea to post twice

Based on the picture of the engine it is definitely an FE motor with an MSD distributor
|
Based on the tag you showed on your other post CCX-3-3940 is most likely from 1995/1996 at contemporary but date on when the car was finished and title is unknown to me. My CCX-3-3967 is from 1996. Engine is FE family(390,427,428) not 429/460 series. I don't see your coil in the photo. Do you have an MSD 6AL control box?
https://www.summitracing.com/search?...20distributors One resource for casting numbers can be found here. https://www.erareplicas.com/427man/engine/partnums.htm cylinder heads casting numbers should be found between the center 2 spark plugs. |
I just noticed this, it looks like your distributor cap is not on correctly. The hooks that hold it down to the distributor are misaligned which will throw you timing off.
|
Definitely a Ford FE engine. Could be 390, 428 or 427. They all use the same distributor. Go to Summit Racing online and you will find several choices for the Ford FE.
I am not sure the cap is on wrong. The MSD has an option to remove the clips and use screws for the hold down. That is what that looks like. John |
The tag above is a 1969/70 Shelby Mustang door tag.
|
After you fix the ignition, throw away the air cleaner. It is much too small. It is a serious restriction and will cause many issues. Find something big (14") that fits.
