boss 429 cammer..........??

last night i met a guy who informed me he has a 429 cammer sitting in a private yard in a ford fairlane its been there 12 years and i need to know what a core motor value would be on such a mill? thanks guys..................

I think you mean a 427 cammer. If it is 427 SOHC, it is worth $15,000-$20,000 complete.

...And if he meant Boss 429, an "s" motor is worth about 5K, and the "t" motor about 8 IF in good condition. If the motor has been blown or has been an experiment by the mechanically challenged, WALK AWAY QUICKLY. Replacement part prices are astronomical and rare! If you see the motor and it is a DOHC Boss 429.....mortgage your first AND second born and buy it 'cause FoMoCo only made about 10 of them (thanks to Holman-Moody) as an experiment back in the day! I have seen 1 picture of one of these motors in an old Hot Rod. They had a story about it when Ford was looking at it for Drag and Nascar racing....it was stillborn when Ford dumped the racing effort. I wonder what happened to those ten............................................... .........................................?

Boss Cammer???

I have never heard of anything like that. Would love to see a picture or know what year and month mag it was in?

I have a boss motor and while searching for parts, never ran across anything like that.

I understand there are something like 10 or so DOHC Boss 429 in existance.

Very, Very rare. Something that was talked about in the labs.

Tell us more about this guy and the car.

Guys: This engine was placed on the table for NASCAR officials sometime in late 1969 or early 1970. It says F-O-R-D on the valve covers. Bill France killed it like they did with the SOHC. It, like the SOHC was a true Hemi engine.

The "S" version of the Boss 429 is the basis for the NASCAR version, with the 2.37" intake valves and connecting rod bolts that are the same size as the lugs on your car .....1/2 inch.

The "T" version was the "street" version with smaller valves and lighter rods and pistons. If you own a 1969-70 Boss429, chances are you have this version in it. The only external clue is the engine ID plate under the coil where you would find 820S or -T. It is a very different engine and then there was the full house NASCAR engine which was another step up yet in parts and performance. Ford never meant for any of these motors or the technology behind them to get into OUR hands.

It took twenty long years for even the most avid supporters of the brand to convince the high brass at FoMoCo that this actually was good business.

I've been a Ford guy for ever and I've never heard of a double overhead cam 429. Ford did build 10 429 double cam engines in 1967 for use in the Can Am series. The engine was called the "calliope" and used the bore spacing of a 385 series engine
The unique feature was the double cams in the block, one operated the twin intake valves and one operated the single exhaust valve. Three valves per cylinder in a hemi style combustion chamber, very cool.
The engine was a full race effort utilizing a dry sump oiling system
and having the fuel injection throttle bodies cast directly into the head.
