how much would a....
 
i know this is kind of a vauge question... but here goes.. how much would a "strong" 429 cost? and i guess "strong" means running well.. some peoples definition of that word tends to stray form the real meaning... any feed back would be nice. thanks

You can build a very strong 429 for less than $5,000. It's kinda hard to find 429 parts nowadays, especially blocks. The early 429 block had a lower deck height, which means higher compression, so they are rather valuable. The 4 bolt blocks are very scarce as well. It's better to look for a 460, as you can chop about $1k off the price and gain some cubes in the process. In reality, it's hard to beat Ford's price on their 514 CID 460 stroker....$7995 for 600 hp and aluminum heads! If decide that you just gotta have a 429, start looking in the junkyards for old TBirds and Lincolns, and find a 71 or earlier block. If it's original, it will probably have the early 429 heads as well, which have screw in studs and are easily machined to use the large 429SCJ valves. Makes a REALLY good street/strip head!
