Tom REALLY REALLY challenges the Butcher! (Part II)
Well, the engine is at the builder's.
REVELATION: The distributor gear appears to be steel - not cast iron! Now what? The distributor itself also "ratchets" a little bit - not too hard to turn, but free spinning it is not. THEORIES: Distributor too deep in the block? Incorrect heat treatment of the gear? Wrong oil pump? Mojo? OBSERVATION: Oil pressure was sixty psi, dropping to 20-30 at idle - supposed to be normal for this engine. DRUM ROLL: More will be told as it is learned by the engine builder. Maybe later this week, I hope. AND FINALLY: The transmission and torque converter are being replaced. Looked like sand blasting sand in the governor preventing downshifts but perhaps is due to the torque converter disassembling itself... Well, it was a real fun 812 (that's right eight hundred and twelve) miles. Nobody will be allowed to calculate cost-per-mile:CRY: That's today's story - more to follow, Tom |
