460 Stroker with broken cam
My 460 Stroker (533 cid) was running good.
Backed it into driveway, tried to start it, wouldn't fire. Distributor was turning, rockers not moving... (uh oh) Pulled motor, found cam in 3 pieces. This is a hyd. cam not real rumpy, 1.8 roller rockers, not a real built motor, about 600 HP. Any ideas what would cause a cam to completely break? Thanks C |
cdod - catastrophic engine failure can be caused by an almost infinate number of things. We will need more details, but usially on the teardown of a engine the cause of a failure becomes self evidant. I don't think you will get many replys unless you include more detail of the failure. As a side issue, a cam failure on the shutdown of a engine such as this usially means most of the engine parts have been spared a high rpm self destruction. Your rebuild may be a simple one if you are lucky. LOL

What kind of cam? We had 3 Crane Cams break due to poor hardening....very frustrating.

The cam gear pin sheared... cam broke, took out 6 intake valves..
I will be rebuilding with a new solid roller cam. I am thinking of going to a comp cams magnum 292 grind or something similar. Anyone have any experience with this cam? |
