460 Oil Pans
 
Suggestions Please

Have a Superformance with SVO Crate 460/535 engine. Oil pan lowest item under car, probably will hit bottom some day.

Do any of the aftermarket racing pans have less depth than the stock Ford rear sump pan?

Appreciate benefit of any experience you may have.

429/460 Cobra Oil Pan
 
We build a version of our original 427 Cobra oil pan for the 429/460 engine. It was originally built for the Superformance chassis. It is a full road race oil pan w/ baffles and traps, scraper, windage tray & custom fabricated pickup for the "D" type oil pump found on the crate engines. Sump is 15" long, an inverted "T" style pan 7-1/2" deep. A 1/2" female pipe thead bung is provided for a temp sender. It and the drain plug are located at the rear of the dropped sump.

I have a Canton pan that sounds similar in size etc to the Aviaid. You might want to check their web site.

Thanks for your response. This is not an emergency repair, but something I do want to take care of pretty soon. Will be out of town a couple of days, and will email you as soon as I get back.

Thanks for your response. I have a friend with a Vette that had a bad experience with a Canton pan. But, that could happen to anyone. They have a good name and product. Will get a price from them and compare.

Welcome John!

I've got an Aviaid pan in my 460 SPF, as a upgrade from the Canton that I had originally. I'm really happy with it.

Thanks for your reply. I was in the SF area three weeks ago. Visited with a gentleman that has an original 427 s/o. He bought it new in 1965 for $6,500.

He turned down $450,000 for it the week I was there. He cranks it and runs it once a month and drives it in his driveway only. As he said to me, if you see a guy driving an original on the street, he is very dumb. Some idiot could crash into the car and then how much is it worth?

I am going to check out the Aviaid pan.
