460 Intake manifols
 
What 460 intakes are you guys using. I currently have a wieand steath but it is to tall for an aircleaner. The shortest I have found is a edelbrock torker II. Is anyone out there using one of these and if so how do you like it. I have a 460c cam, alum cj heads
toploader and a 3:50 final gear. Any suggestions for a low rise intake manifold that works well at 6000 rpm please let know.

Hi Dan,

I'm using a Torker II converted for individual port EFI. It produced really good hp all the way up the scale. There are other threads here about the (INDY) dyno test and installation details. Also some photos in my gallery.

I previously used the next lowest intake, an Edelbrock Performer RPM 460, which seemed sort of OK with a carb, but was just too tall. I got tired of the Demon's problems, so switched to EFI.

The Stealth is taller than either of the above units. You can see dimensions to compare on the various manufacturers' web sites, or in the Jegs/Summit/etc catalogs.

I had a similar problem with my 460 in an Everett-Morrison. I used a Blue Thunder dual plane intake along with my Blue Thunder heads. I had to cut about 5/16" off the carb plate to give myself minimal hood clearance for an air cleaner. At first, I fabricated an air cleaner to accomodate a K&N 10" x 2" round filter. That really was not good enough. The next step was to design an oval shaped air cleaner from scratch along with another friend. We had bottom castings made along with CNC billet tops. We designed it to be able to drop low over the carb and can machine them as required. The carb plate screws into the bottom casting and is safety wired into place. It also utilizes a K&N filter (15" x 10" x 2"). I know it seems extreme, but it works very well and packages like a dream. As always there is a hitch. We cannot accomodate vacuum secondaries or electric choke housings. I have never had a need for such stuff anyway... If you want to look into this further, contact me. I think I have about 8 or 9 of these air cleaners left.

Joe, very interested in your air cleaner. I have a 460SVO in my Superformance, with Edlebrock RPM and Holley 750HP DP, mech. secondary. Present air cleaner is the standard 2 inch oval.

Is your setup lower than this combination? I definitely would like to get more air to the engine than the 2"X10" unit. Can you send pics?

I also have the Torker 2
 
With a demon carb still on there.. with the EFI and 1000 cfm air door I should have no trouble using my large oval "cobra" air filter unit. Pics of my motor in my photo gallery

I will dig out a photo or two at home and e-mail them to you. I will try to do it tonight or tomorrow. After that, I will be in Indy for the U.S. Nationals until Tuesday. Also, I use a Demon 850 DP with mechanical secondaries and I have dropped the air cleaner quite a bit over this unit.
