Which Carb?
Currently have a Holley 1411 750cfm . . . considering swapping it out for an Edelbrock 1407 750cfm carb. Engine currently has an Edelbrock Performer 460 manifold. Any comments or testimonials regarding Edelbrock Carbs would be appreciated.

My Eddy has a bit better low end and is easy to adjust, but when I had a Holley on it it was more of a screamer with noticably better upper range power. Going back to another holley or BG Demon.

Knew I had seen that plate on I75 I think. Near Troy?
Why are you changing carbs? The Holley should provide good coverage of the RPM spectrum. However, if you are running higher RPMs than the carb can flow, you might be getting a flat topend. Do you ever make it up to the FLint area? Just my $0.02 with a couple of questions. |
Personally not a fan of the edelbrock carb. They can be a lot of work to get dialed in just right with jets, needles & springs. The carb I had on my big chevy a couple years back even gave me problems after it was set up right. Personally I don't think they are well made & though they do perform well when set up properly I would prefer a Demon or Holley any day. Demon makes a real nice carb that performs really well out of the box as does Holley. I used a speed demon for a while & a friend has been running a road demon on his small chevy for a couple years now without a problem. In fact he always talks about what a great carb it is. I will be using a Holley on my car for asthetic purposes, if not I would run a demon. Sizing your carb correctly is your starting point. If you do that a Holley or a Demon is "pretty much" a bolt on application. A couple small adjustmens may be needed.

trularin, That plate may have been: EXQQME. I've checked and XXQQQME is still available. I don't have my personal plate yet as I can't make up my mind which one to get. Haven't been much of anywhere yet. I'm still monkeying around with minor adjustment stuff. . . front end alignment etc. Perhaps longer trips will be in my future, once I work out the bugs. Just got it on the road this month. I'm considering changing to the new Edelbrock because I heard that they perform very well out of the box, very few adjustments, no plastic parts and will work well with my cam and Performer 460 intake. I may have the Holley rebuilt and swap back later. . . not sure yet. With that being said, I will be attending several local shows and cruises (St. Clair Shores, Warren, Mt. Clemens area) as well as the Woodward Dream Cruise. The Great Lakes Cobra Club (GLCC) is leasing the South parking lot of McGlaughlin Ford just North of I696. Maybe we'll see you there.**) |
I went with the 1406 Edelbrock. Mainly because of the lack of fuel bowl gaskets. I just got tired of fuel spills on everythng when pulling off the bowls.
