stock 429 Thunderjet

Was wondering if anyone could give me a ball park figure for a stock 429 Thunderjet. I'm not sure if I want to sell it or if I am going to keep it and rebuild it. Thanks for any help

Woods;

I don't know,but a cousin of mind recently sold his old 1978 F-250 4x4 for a whopping $1,800.00....Back around 1990 the original 351-M gave up and he found a (I think that was the correct year) 1966 429 Thunderjet engine still in the original car,still in running condition in a junkyard,got the motor for almost nothing,did a stock rebuild,put in in the old 4x4 and that was his daily driver ever since...........

He was offered $1,000.00 just for the heads,I have seen these heads go for $1,500.00 to $1,800.00,just depends on how bad someone wants them........I tried to convince him to pull the motor and sell it on e-bay and put another motor in the truck,he said he was getting too old for that and did not have the time or energy to do it.......

Hang onto the motor,re-build it and drop it into something and enjoy,that truck of his had enough low end torque to pull houses and trees with................

Motorhead;

I think the Thunderjet engine was what they were called before the Cobrajet engine,if I remember correctly they had somethig like 11.5 to 1 compression.........

Thanks, David.

Woods: I know what I would do; keep it, rebuild it, then buy a Cobra to put it in!!!:D ;)

thunder jet can be had many different ways,first all k code 429 r thunder jets, but r 2v engines this is the only diff,some times called base 429's,yes base.........t jet 429 can be a 68.69.70.71year, they have screw in studs,no guide plates,they made these engines sometimes w/ dove blocks,and sometimes c9ve blocks,the 4v intake is just that ,a plain 4 v, 4 v is rated at 360 hp,if ur lucky its a dove block,at least a 2 bolt the heads r worth about 250.oo block as much as 400.00depending on what it is...the crank will be a 4u, worth about nothing unless some one wants a 429 crank, dont forget to mach the heads for guide plates.a lot of poeple just bolt on adj studs,and guides plates,u caint do this and have the right valve train gemotry (pushrod lenght also) ....................

This website should help explain the differences between Thunderjet, Cobrajet, Suoer Cobrajet, NASCAR and BOSS versions of the 429.
