460 Ford Distributor Height
I have a 460 Ford in my West Coast Cobra. The height of the distributor
from the manifold to the top of the wire boots is 8 1/2 inches. This height does not allow me to use the cast Cobra air cleaner supplied with the kit. I do not know who manufactured the distributor, it's billet with a blue cap in conjunction with a MSD 6 series ignition. I need a billet distributor that is at least 1 inch shorter to clear the air cleaner. Does anyone know if the is a shorter distributor with a centrifugal advance. I have the MSD 8577. Here: http://www.msdignition.com/dist_19.htm I didn't measure from the manifold because we may not have the same manifold, so I measured up from the block: 9-1/8" to the top of the plug boots which are the MSD right-angle ones. The tape had to bend a little to get from the block (next to the distributor hold down clamp) up the to top, so the actual height may be a fraction less. This distributor is the smallest for the 385 I could find! Tom |
I also have the 8577 small diameter MSD. It barely clears the air cleaner, but it does. I have pics in the gallery.
