400ci Is there such an engine?

Came across a 78 Ranchero and it supposedly has a 400ci (6.6) engine. I've never seen that engine talked about here. Is this a BB? Any thoughts good or bad?

It's in the Modified engine branch. Very basically it is a Cleveland engine with the 429/460 bellhousing pattern. They made 351M's and 400M's, with the 351's showing up in trucks and the 400's showing up in cars.

This engine is sorta seen as a pig, but you can make decent power with it. My opinion is, you should only build it up if it's staying in the Ranchero.

Actually the engine makes tons of torque, but not too much HP.

Actually, it is a tall deck Cleveland series (335) engine. Performance
parts for the Cleveland will fit but lack of good performance intake
manifolds from the aftermarket limits its use. But, bolt on a set of
CHI or old iron 4V heads, with flattop pistons, (yes they are now
available for zero deck/closed chamber combo) with spacer plates
with a Cleveland blue thunder intake, some serious valvetrain and
cam upgrades and you have a ton of hp and torque potential. Some
of the folks over on the Yahoo Cleveland forum are making some
serious hp with these supposed "pigs". I put one in a Midstates,'
it fit fine. There are some differences externally and internally such
as motor mounts, bell housing (460 pattern) overall width and height,
main bearing, rods, crank, pistons, but most of the rest of the motor
is common to the regular CLeveland. THis is cheap hp, and 400hp and
over is very easy to obtain.
