Engine suggestion
Hi guys, Wanted to get some opinions. I have a 1969 Torino Talladega. One of 754. The engine short block is gone. In it's place is a 1969 390 shortblock, I assume a Ford replacement block as work was done at a Ford dealer. The original 428 CJ heads on on it. Has a mustang intake and Motorcraft carb. Which is wrong of course. Since the car will never have the partial vin (on the block), I am wondering about what to do. Edelbrock has a package for the 390 that looks pretty good on paper. Horsepower numbers in the 428 CJ range. Should I rework it. Beat the weeds for a 428CJ shortblock? Or, drop a crate motor in it like a 514/460/429 385 series motor? Open to suggestions. Thanks in advance, Dave

You can buils an inexpensive 428 by using your 390 block, boring it out .080 to 4.130 which is standard bore 428. The whole stroker kit is available at Probe off the shelf.

FE block
Keith Craft has a few FE CJ blocks. I don't think old Ford block had vin numbers, but they do have a date code on the block.
