545 oil takeoff adapter

Hi Guys, I'm having a bit of a problem over here(UK) getting an adapter for thr rear oil port, all I want is to be able to plumb in the oil pressure/warning light, and the accumulator line, anyone running that setup can help? Tom W, I believe you may be? if I could get one I would leave the shipping until the beginning of June and have it shipped to the hotel in Vegas, any advice/help appreciated. Thanks Dave

Depending on the type of adapter you need, you may be able to find it at a hardware store or auto parts store. It takes standard NPV thread type. As a last resort when you are in Vegas go to a local US auto parts store that carries fittings.

I'm running the oil accumulator (ACCUSUMP) into the front port just above where the mechanical fuel pump would be if I had one - the front left side (that would be our driver's side, your passenger side :LOL: ) of the block. This gallery is just above and on the output side of the oil pump.

Just went to look; both the rear port atop the bell housing and the front port seem to be around 3/8" NPT (standard pipe thread) to my (un)calibrated eyeball.

I use the rear port for a mechanical oil pressure gauge. If you're going to do any track time, a big red "low oil pressure" light would be a good idea too, not that I have one.

Thanks Tom, ........I said NPV, but I meant NPT. I use the rear port for mechanical oil pressure gauge line, so I have a 90 degree elbow adapter screwed into it.

If you needed to run an Accusump from the rear, I guess you could get a "T" fitting to run both.

The rear port on the 429 block is 1/4 NPT.or (gas)thead
I just measured it at 511 thou on the OD of the fitting.

Thanks Guys, I am going to keep it simple and run a line to the front port 3/8 npt, I will use the rear 1/4 npt to take the oil pressure(mech) and a fitting for the warning light, and The oil temp both trans/engine I will use fittings from each respective pan, Tom as a matter of interest what size line are you using with your accusump? I think the acc end is 1/2" npt, Thanks Dave:LOL:

ACCUSUMP comes with 1/2" NPT fittings. Since the room was there I put the ACCUSUMP widthwise across the car just in front of the engine and put the solenoid valve and the pressure switch right into the end of the accumulator which faced toward the left side of the engine where the port is located. I used the low pressure switch - I think it is 20-25 psi.

From the pressure switch I used a -10 AN adapter and line between there and the block port. Hated to reduce down to 3/8" NPT at that point but since engine is already in the car it was not practical to enlarge it. So I rationalized that 3/8" is plenty big enough at that point, and track tests seem to support that conclusion just fine!
