Gear drive

Anyone running a geardrive v timing chain?

I am rebuilding my motor 429/460. I dont think its fair to call it a 460 anymore, changing pretty much everything. New block, pistons, crank, cam...
The original setup had dual timing chains. Found a gear for it and highly considering it...

Anyone else running one?

Mike

Tom,

Thank you...

Ever notice that most of the posts are negative. (Why you shouldnt do something.)

I have to check and see what my Mechanic is ordering for the gear.

I brought this up a few years back. Seems that a gear drive isn't something that really fits the Cobra era or Mystique. Of course if you are doing a custom build the game is all yours. ;)

Point taken. I am considering it. I am not a big fan of the whinning noise...Some people like it. The guy I am using swears by them. Original set up had a dual timing chain.

They sound awesome. They just sound out of place on an Original looking Cobra.

The high end timing solution appears to be the Danny Bee belt drive for the 385 series. Infinitely adjustable and quiet. Also expensive. Me likey.

Gear drives are fine, they work great. You can get quiet and noisey ones. It's not out of place or odd for a Cobra, or anything like that. It's an internal engine part :confused. I have a Pete Jackson noisey one in my engine. It sounds cool to me, but after a couple thousand miles it quiets down and you can't even tell it's in there.
