460 problem who can help me?????
 
hello, i was wondering if someone can help me, i'm putting new gaskets in a 69er 460ci of a lincoln mark III. evrything's going well but i have a problem in the front of the engine. this engine has the power steering pump on the crankshaft and if you take it away, you have under the water pump a housing that you can remove. This housing has a big original hole where the crankshaft comes through, i have a rubber seal what comes in there, but i can't figure out how? does anyone has a photo or drawing of where a complete engine stands on in pieces???i need the very urgent???? help help help greetz :JEKYLHYDE phil

That cover is unique to the 1969 engine - later engines are completely different in regard to the PS pump.

You learn something everyday...I thought they dropped that system when they switched from the 462. Why would it be unique to the '69 engine?? They introduced the engine in 1968, the '68 T-bird 429 engine I have is a standard pump.Did they revert after a year and then return to an external pump??

I think in 1970 they developed a good front mount system to drive all the accessories so they dropped the crank driven pump--it did work good tho!!!Up til then as more and more accessories got added to cars, the number of belts, pulleies and bracketry just kept growing---they came out with one large cast bracket that simplfied the system as more and more cars had power steering, a/c, etc
