My 429 complete performance rebuild takes it's first breath!! Must See!!
Finally got her to breath on her own after years of restoring this Shell Valley 1991 build 429.. Today was the first time we fired her up to break in the flat-tappet cams.. We estimate 450+HP at the wheels.. Speaking of wheels, if you guys know of anyone getting rid of some Compomotive replica wheels Halibrand style, drop me an email at commercialcobb@hotmail.com.. Enjoy this link to the youtube video.

Yea ..What's with the hose and should'nt you be holding those RPM's at about 2500 to break the cam in??
Sounds great otherwise, but you gotta keep the revs up for breakin.

Guess he was worried about bubbling the paint by the side pipe cutouts if the exhaust got too hot- running the hose is not the worst idea.

We hadn't broken in the ceramic coated headers yet.. lol. We screwed up and sold of the original exhaust manifolds and forgot about the breakin.. Used the water hose to keep the headers from burning up and chalking the ceramic coating.. It worked, no damage. Also that video was after the initial 10 min breakin at 2500 rpm. The mototr head at the shop said 10 would be just fine and didn't want the headers to get any hotter so we brought it back down to idle for 10 mins and kept the water on the headers..

429 build
I'm building a '69 429 and am having a hard time finding "Std" pistons, what pistons did you use. ALso, where did the valve covers come from.
Thanks,
PJ
