The Trip
Well here is the route I think would be fun. How about Sat the 16th?

The route has it all from interstate to tight twisties, lots of shade and mountain vistas. The route didn't cut and paste well but you guys are bright enough to look at a map. Randy |
TC, Andrea may not be able to make the trip and I know your car is still on the lift - if that is the case you are welcome to ride with me. I might even let you drive some of the time %/ **) :JEKYLHYDE. Anything to keep you off the scooter. I'll let you know later this weekend.

It's west of Alpharetta. Look on a map for Hwy 372 going north. Crabapple is not the only jumping off point we can collect cars as we move north, in your case you could take 575 north and meet us. Or we can reverse the route - I don't care. All I want is sunny skies, many participants and a few chances to let my little stroker breath.
Send me your address and I'll send you detailed directions to Crabapple :p  Randy |
JO - Don't let me take on all these small blocks alone!
I'd suggest 9:30 - enough time to get the Grandma's here to baby-sit and yet early enough to make it a nice long day! Everyone post there opinion or its 9:30 at Crabapple! Randy, are we supposed to meet at the corner Church/County building or whatever it is on the corner across from the Shell station? My wife will be joining us again in case anyone else brings their better half. See ya there! |
Looks good but Randy, you are definitely in the lead. Print the above route or we may never see civilitazion again.
Maybe someone should do a dry run first to be sure there are gas stations for the horses to quench their thirst:LOL: Bring sun tan lotion :MECOOL: That way, the rain will stay away. :JEKYLHYDE |
If this is the plan then we can meet at the church parking lot on the left, about 1/2 mile north of Crabapple at 9:30. The trip totals 165 miles with many gas stations.
Chill has made this run on a bike and said it was great. The run from Blueridge (Morganton) on Hwy 60 through Margret - Baxter - Suches to Hwy 9 looks wicked on the map. By my count 209 significant inputs to the steering wheel in 34 miles, even if I double counted it should be fun. I can print the travel packet and fax it Monday to anyone. Cracker - pray for sunny weather. Randy |
He hears everyone - so chip in yourself as well.:D God bless ya! (and I really mean it!)
Big Easy - ya commin? Don't try that yard excuse again:LOL: |
That weekend is the Atlanta Historic Races
Although it is tough for me to get excited about spending $400 to enter Sports Challenge with limited passing  , plus another $800 or so in expenses, so I may be available. My Hot Rod shop is also having an open house then. |
Randy,
Appreciate the offer and I am honored. If all goes well, my arruminum can will be self propelled by then. Now that I wasted a weekend trying to shove that wire down the conduit , I may get some work done this weekend (finish guage install and clean up wiring under dash). Heads go on motor this week, and then we fire her up. Then motor install, then fab driveshaft, then exhaust hole, then weld up headers. Then have fun, get car filthy, maybe go camping with it ;) , then maybe actually clean it and sand it some :D . |
Sounds like a plan, and I'l l be there, weather permitting.;)
And, since I'm now looking for my next employment gig (as you well know, Cracker), there should be no excuses about having to do yard work, at least on the weekend.:3DSMILE: I have been up and down most of these roads on a bike as well, and I can tell you that it will be a very nice drive.... Charlie |
Charlie, hope the transition goes well for you. If I hear of any openings that could be a fit, I'll call you.
|
Early forcast:
Saturday. Partly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Lows in the lower 70s. Highs in the lower 90s. My only problem is my car appears to be sick and I'll have to drive Andrea's. I may need to flatbed or trailer my car down to Bill, looks as if the front seal is defective or I broke it  Randy |
Sorry to hear about the possible alternate ride. I can relate and can personally say you kind of still feel part of the group.:JEKYLHYDE

Randy
Whats the total miles?? |
Well what a doofus I am. The title says August get together and I am talking like it's a mid-September get together. If it had been, I would hopefully be done by then. My plan is by Labor Day or sooner.
|
Alex the total for the trip is about 165. We can make it shorter or less grueling for the ARP members.
The total on my car is about 450. Randy |
I'll try to make it, but don't wait up if you don't hear from me. Wfie's travelling Mon-Fri these days so weekend schedule is touch and go. If so, I may be sans Cobra - still having clutch issues. Got to get it to SA and or Unique sometime soon, just got to find time. Hopefully I'll have my brother's 968 complete by then as a back up.
Charlie - Hope you land on your feet quickly! I was lucky and saw the writing on the wall at the beginning of the year and landed a new position about three months ago. New job is working out great, just very busy - a good thing in these days! It is definitely strange working out of an office again. :P |
In addition to the 200+ turns there are alot of sport bikes trying to kill themselves. I made the trip several times on the Harley and a few times saw at least one biker that had made his mark!! I would suggest we run up 575 and 5 up to Elijay and 76 to BlueRidge then drop down the twisties through Suches to Dahlonega. I don't recall fuel between Blue Ridge and SUches, but there is a gas station across from TWO in Suches. (Two Wheels Only - restaurant). If we actually get going by 9:30 or so, we can get to Dahlonega for lunch then decide on either 400 or 9 back south.
Charlie, We need Implementation Project Managers, that a possible fit? |
Chill what is an Implementation Project Manager - If I get your hours and play I'll take it.
I agree with you on the 575 idea, we can still hook up somewhere in the area and pick up the Cobb folks on the way. Jason what is the clutch problem? I'll give you a hand if you want to fix it yourself. Randy |
