Any Holley Carb Experts in Atl

Anyone know a good holley carb expert in North Atlanta area? My car idles good and runs fine as long as I stay out of the secondaries. As soon as I hit em it runs rough, won't idle, and blows black smoke. Seems like it is flooding. Float adjustment or jetting possibly?

What I would like to do is give a carb shop the specs to my engine, and have them jet it correctly.

Dave try starting here http://www.bob2000.com/carb.htm This will get you started, if that doesn't help you should try one of the chassis dyno shops in Marietta. They can get it dead on for about $150 or less. I'm going to take mine over after I get some more miles on ot.

You guys are convincing me that I need to go with the Edelbrock or Demon. Clyde was having problems with his Holley as well. Are ya'll all running vacuum secondaries?

GeorgiaSnake 08-05-2003 03:28 AM

Tony my holly is working great. No stumbles just acceleration. I want to do the dyno trip just to optimize. What are you doing up so early ?

Thanks for the link Randy,
Shouldn't you be bidding a job or something
I do plan on running on a dyno, but I need some more breakin miles first.

Tony, I am running a holley carb that originally came with my 427. It was rebuilt and never installed on the old engine. It does have vacuum secondaries.

What you need is a 650DP for your engine...Holley part # 04777C, jet down two sizes in the front, and two in the rear, add a Moroso 1:1 linkage kit, set your floats, and you'll be good to go..........Stay away from the Edelbrock unit if your looking for performance, as this is usually for the plug and play street rodder crowd......If your going to run a Demon, make sure you get one of the newest next generation units, as the older units were prone to fuel delivery problems...................

Don't know your engine specs. but, adjust your power valve to your vacuum
and get the quick change vacuum secondary kit with springs. Play with the jets and springs until it feels gooooooood.......

Bill, someone on a previous post also running a SB stroker has been swapping out carbs between Holley, Edelbrock and Demon. According to him, the Edelbrock 1407 gave him the best performance of the three. Isn't a 650 CFM kind of small for a 427 CI engine?

Randy, I always wake up early due to Cobra Pre-stroker Syndrome (CPS). By the way, where are we going this weekend? Looks like the weather might be cooperative.

Dave, how are those back tires looking? Still loving the solid cam?

Where is there a dyno place in Marrietta. I don't think the secondaries on my 2x4s open and you can't tell without a load on the engine.

GeorgiaSnake 08-05-2003 04:14 PM

Alex I have the names at the office. I'll post them Wednesday. Another option is give me your car for a week and I'll check it out :p
If everyone will get together and pick a date we can schedule a club event one Sat.
