Tony, the eatin joints are one exit past the first drag strip exit. The road that the strip is on runs parallel to I85 between two exits (about a half mile west of the interstate), the exit with the Outlet Mall and and the next exit south. After tying on the feed bag, you should be able to get to the strip without having to get back on 85.

Tony Radford 10-31-2003 08:56 AM

I've got a correction. The road that the drag strip is on runs into the Tanger Outlet road. So if you were north-bound on 85, you would turn left at the end of the exit, go over the interstate, take a left at the first light on the other side (Tanger Outlet Rd.) and take an immediate right. The dragstrip is down that road on the right. You can't miss it. Ron said he would tape off an area for us to park as a group. Heading up a might early for some chow sounds like a good plan. Food is sold at the strip, but man it's expensive!

Hi guys

I'm getting ready to go on a trip (Osaka) and will return Monday night. I'd like to ask for some advice on the trip (not Osaka) to Commerce. I'm coming from Fayetteville and plan on leaving early to miss the traffic. I'm not up to speed on the North side so maybe someone could give me an idea on how early to leave. I plan on going on 285 Eastside to 85 and then North. Exit numbers would help. I did read that there is a place to eat on the exit just past the Commerce exit I'll probably do that also.

Thanks,

Tony Radford 10-31-2003 05:13 PM

Bob, it's easy to find. I believe the first exit to the drag strip is 147 and the Tanger Outlet mall is 149. I'd say you'll travel 30-45 minutes past the 985 split. Just follow the signs, you can't miss Tanger.

Tony,

Just got back from Japan and read your directions. Thanks, I won't have any problem finding it.

Dinner on Friday, Nov. 7th!

Group leaving Roswell at Holcomb Bridge Rd & 400 at 3:45 Friday afternoon to beat the traffic.

Dinner spot is the "shiny" Diner restaurant on the north side of I-85 at 5:00. This is at the Tanger outlet exit per Hector's instructions. Anyone interested show up and chow up! The dragway is apparantly a very short distance from this location. We will have at least 1 if not 2 trailered cars at this spot so parking may or may not be tight but I'm sure we'll find a way. See you'all Friday!

Cracker does this mean you are going to find a trailer for me **)

How does one beat traffic at 3:45 on a Friday, in Roswell no less %/ ?

GeorgiaSnake 11-03-2003 05:30 PM

Make it AM ?

Cracker 11-03-2003 07:47 PM

Correction on Meeting & Departure times Friday.

Meet 3:00 - 3:15 Depart no later than 3:30 from Roswell.

This was in part changed based on opinions of traffic up I85 on
Friday afternoons.

patrija 11-04-2003 01:39 PM

I'll plan to meet you guys there. I'll be coming from work and going South from 400/Mansell. I'm not sure what's on Holcomb at 400, but is there a particular restaurant parking lot or something? Primarily curious if I should go East or West on Holcomb. :)

rsnell 11-04-2003 01:46 PM

I would suggest that from 400 and Mansell, you go North on 400, to Hwy 20 and cut over "east" to I85 north.

Holcomb Birdge East (turns into) Jimmy Carter to I85 also will get you there.

Looking forward to seeing all you uys Friday night! Weather looks good so far........

Cracker 11-04-2003 01:48 PM

ORIGINAL 289 COBRA MAY GRACE OUR EVENT & RUN THE STRIP!

patrija,

When exiting 400 onto Holcomb Bridge Rd., Take a right (west) and if my U-turn and come back towards 400 (east). I believe there is a median in the middle which is why you would need to do this. We believe the last gas station on the right to be a Texaco and is located next to the Nissan Dealership. It is literally the last gas station before the 400 onramp when heading back east on Holcomb Bridge Rd. I/we look forward to seeing you on Friday! We role out at 3:30 sharp to beat traffic!%/

BTW,

The new route IS to take 400 N to Hwy 20 as RSNELL has suggested.

GeorgiaSnake - sorry I forgot about your question. I have invited two Chevy friends out and both trailer their cars. 1) Mallet C5 Corvette runs 11's & 2) Pro-Street Style and neat Chevy Nova
We also may be graced with Dick Slater's orginal 289 Cobra. He is a friend of the Paul Smith (corvette owner) and as long as the weather is good he wants to drag his 2000 series cobra with us! Now that's exciting - even if it is a SB:LOL:

GeorgiaSnake 11-04-2003 02:54 PM

Cracker if you are talking about the Texaco on the west side of 400 I don't think you can get out and go north on 400. I suggest we meet north up 400 to get ahead of the traffic.

As a side note 20 can be a major headache heading east to 985 / 85. I have spent an hour making that trip, stop and go stop and go.

Randy

Cracker 11-04-2003 03:00 PM

HE$$, I don't care how we get there aside from stop/go/stop/go crap. I recall going farther north on 400 and taking a cut through to 53 or 369? It's how I get to Road Atlanta from our parts - if you were to continue past Road Atlanta would we wind up near Commerce? Open to ideas including meeting spots. Randy, if we do indeed head accross 20/36/53 we can meet up by the exit 13 location we've used in the past- lots of parking and easy in & out.

GeorgiaSnake 11-04-2003 03:46 PM

369 goes to Gainsville - ugh - more stop and go :p

53 puts you out on 985 if I remember correctly.

ToyCollector 11-04-2003 04:02 PM

53 is a very consistent way to cross over to Road Atlanta from GA 400. Rte 20 blows. I am away on biz, so my time here will be brief.

GeorgiaSnake 11-04-2003 04:50 PM

Cracker what are you doing starting another thread on this topic, don't you realize I am easily cornfused.

It is great news to hear that we may have a REAL ONE in attendance:3DSMILE:

I may need to borrow a noggin protector from someone, I got mine out and all of the foam has been eaten by some micro-organism. It needs to be BIG to fit my 7-7/8 pumpkin
