Forgot to say that the highway east from Howe goes perfectly straight for a long time, and as you proceed the Teton Mtns are framed perfectly in teh middle of the road.

This pic shows the Cobra in the rear view mirror of the 'Vette. lurking and ready to strike

Rain! After leaving Wall, SD, it was sunny for a few miles, then clouds, wind and finally rain. This was taken at a gas stop in Worthington, MN ( I think) as we were preparing to hit the road again..

When we spotted a car show during a gas stop, we had to stop in. The car people here were great. The Cobra was a smash hit! This photo shows the 'Vette and Cobra with at teh show with a rainbow behind.

At this point we knew the day would be OK: Fun with some other motorheads and a rainbow!

Day 5

Day 5 was a day of rest. Visited with family and did some minor Cobra work. Rigged up a "Stop the wipers" switch. Raised teh back end an inch or so using teh jack screws because teh rear tires were hgitting the fenders at times. And remembered that we needed to aim the headlights.

Day 6 plans are to make a long haul from Marshall, WI to Atlanta. Should be about 850 miles. Gonna hit the road in about 7 hours, so time to get some rest....

Whoa ... NUTS!!!

BTW - I met yet another new Cobra owner this afternoon. He just bought a Shell Valley out of Maine and lives ... get this, off of Kennesaw Due West just down the road from you.

We definitely need a Cobb Co get-to-gether in the near future!!

Be safe on your last day of the craziest roadtrip I've ever heard someone make. ;)

Day 6

Day 6: Marshall, WI to Marietta, GA (850 miles)

Left at 9AM, and just rolled into the garage at my house. Travel time was about 13.5 hours. The weather was good and the car ran great. Until I got 1 mile rom my house - then the skies opened up into a HUGE downpour - by far the hardest rain of the trip. I almost had to pull over to wait it out when I was within walking distance of my house - after a 3000+ plus road trip!

Pictures and a final wrap up tomorrow.... For now - I am am going to bed - I am a bit tired!

svobud 05-29-2005 09:43 PM

If it's nice tomorrow - give me a hollar (email feature thru club cobra). I'll drive over and have a look at a true cannonballer.

Your son will have memories of this trip that will last him a lifetime, and so will you! Great posting, thanks.

I'm jealous......

Thought about doing a similar trip to bring my car back from Sonoma County when I bought it, but decided not to for fear of beating up the paint. Now after reading your story, it seems paint would have been a cheap price to pay for a great adventure! Curious to hear how the exterior held up ie rock chips, etc.

The key point is I just thought about it......you did it! I hate it when that happens :D
