Brittany, when you tell a bunch of car guys, with Cobras no less, that you "will make it worth their while to come"...watch out!

sourstraw 05-24-2006 07:54 AM

(O: Nothing inappropriate, just a little "Thank you!"

Are you thinking of coming out?

Brittany

shelbygt500 05-24-2006 11:11 AM

Do you think he'd be interested in seeing a 69 Shelby GT500? I'm still waiting for my Cobra but I'd like to meet some of the local guys.

sourstraw 05-24-2006 11:14 AM

But of course- we are car people!

If you've got it, bring it!

I will PM you directions.

We are meeting at 1pm at my house in Canton (right on the Woodstock line!)

mzhun 05-25-2006 08:31 AM

Sorry, I'm out. The wife planned a last minute trip to the beach...:-(

sourstraw 05-25-2006 12:34 PM

No Problem- who is still coming out?

svobud 05-25-2006 12:59 PM

Matt, that sucks. Let her take the kids by herself. :D

Sour - I'll be there. Weather forecast is looking good.

sourstraw 05-25-2006 01:15 PM

Excellent (O: I'm so excited!

He has no idea.. this is going to be great!

Wow - you guys really sucked on the showing up part. I was the only one who actually made the effort.

You guys should have seen the look on this guy's face when pulled up in the driveway. Priceless. I took Frank for about a 1 1/2 hr ride up to Ellijay and back. Then I let him take Brittany for a ride. I think they're bitten. ;)

Very nice gesture on your part Bud! Thanks for upholding the reputation of the Cobra Club. Probably best it was just you vs the usual hoard of locusts descending on these poor folks, eating all their food, drinking their beer, and generally terrorizing the neighborhood :3DSMILE:

Patriot 05-29-2006 08:11 AM

Thank you Bud!

Bitten indeed! **) Bud, I can't thank you enough for taking the time (and gas $) to come all the way out from your neck of the woods and not only give me a ride but LET ME DRIVE!!! :JEKYLHYDE I would have filled her up for you, but I was so excited when we pulled into the Chevron that you were about to let me drive, I totally forgot my manners. :o

I had the time of my life yesterday, despite my injuries! I managed to keep my calves off the pipes, but I forgot to put sunscreen on the tops of my knees and when I was giving Brit a ride, I went to turn around in a cul-de-sac and forgot how little elbow-room there was, whacking the tip of my elbow right on the top edge of the door! It was easily worth every bit of pain!

We rode up 575 to Ellijay and then over and down to Jasper, down highway 53 back to 575. It was a great cruise, with the sun on my face, the wind in my hair, those side pipes reporting with everything from a mellow rumble to mellifluous roar, and people practically breaking their necks to turn and look! I had a blast and got a lot of good brain-picking time with Bud. I am already refining my FFR in my head! (of course I have been doing that for years, but now I have some ACTUAL SEAT TIME!!)

Again, I can't thank you enough, Bud, for taking the time out of your Memorial Day weekend (and the time out of your life to serve our country!) to come and take someone you have never met or spoken to for a ride and drive in such a beautiful car!

I have some pics on the computer at home, I will post them when I get a chance.

Thanks again, Bud!!

My pleasure Frank. I'm glad you enjoyed the experience. We all remember exactly what that feeling is like, or maybe some of us seem to forget. I'm not only a Cobra owner - I'm also an enthusiast - and I like sharing the experience of having one.

Glad you had a good b-day, but you really should be thanking Brittany - she set it all up!

sourstraw 05-30-2006 12:19 PM

Bud,

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to give my husband the birthday of his dreams! You made my crazy idea a reality!

Also, thank you for your sacrifice for our freedom in serving our country.

You're a great guy and I hope we all can get together soon.

Brittany

Good job Bud:)

Patriot 05-30-2006 04:16 PM

As promised, here are a couple more pics from my birthday:

Getting instruction on how to properly mount the snake (notice cool white towel in left hand to prevent the searing of leg flesh. I have had leather seats before!):

The seatbelt in my Civic only has one buckle. What are all these parts for?

Woohoo! Let's go!

I wish I had some pics of my smiles during the ride. It was great! Bud was a great host and driver and the car was more than I had imagined it would be. The ride was smoother than I thought it would be. The power steering could definitely be described as "twitchy" at first, but it got easier to drive after a couple of miles. The pedal-box is narrow. I could barely get my fat New-Balances in there and hit only one pedal at a time. The manual brakes were scary at first, but after a mile or two, you don't even think about having to press the pedal harder, you just do it. Bud assured me he can lock them up. The car cruised so nicely that I was always suprised when i looked at the speedo. It didn't feel like we were going as fast as we were.

All said, Brit and I can't wait to have one in our garage. Now I just have to convince her to help me build one ourselves. :D

Congratulations Bud, great job on behalf of ACC - if I had anything that was running, I would have joined you. Back to the garage, install more switches..........

chipperb 05-30-2006 08:16 PM

Way to go, Bud! cb
