RumOR: Walter Mitty Challenge to feature Ford this year

...am trying to confirm this. Rumor also has it that this year's poster will feature a picture of a Cobra. cb

I think it is Japanese sports cars.

chipperb 02-09-2008 08:59 PM

that was last year.

this was from the organizer of the event. cb

dont guess its a rumor anymore ... Classic Motorsports Magazine is putting the info out to the public. They even have some Mitty artwork too.

Mitty

Well, it would be nice to actually see some Cobra's running, or other cool items like GT40's. Only Ford products I recall at the Mitty are the clone 65/66 GT350's. Since I had worked the past 3 years with the McMichael's display at the Mitty, be nice to attend and enjoy myself this year.

Had a sighting Saturday afternoon in Athens on Oconee Connector, an SPF Titanium/Black w/bumperettes and black side pipes. Not one of my past customers, didn't recognize the driver, either.

Hey !
The cars you are talking about (GT40s,Cobras,etc.) run with SVRA, not HSR.
HSR has no group for them... so I doubt the turnout of those cars will amount to much.

I stumbled on on one of these for the kids room...

I am looking forward to going too.

Just an FYI (a reminder as well) Jim Click Racing is supposed to have an orginal 289 that he brought to the track to run. I was talking with his "transport" guy on Weds evening. Should be pretty cool. I won't make it up there tomorrow, but plan on attending Sunday.

Cheers,
Ryan

I looked at the Click car, believe it to be a CSX4000 car, a "continuation". There are no other Cobras there. There are a few "striped Mustangs", but to call this a "Ford gathering" is a joke. Pathetic sized crowd on a beautiful Friday. There was more people at the track last week for the Tour De Georgia bicycle race. Rain is holding things in check today, but this afternoon it's supposed to be nice followed by a 70 an' sunny Sunday. Very nice Formula 1 group, some very historic cars. All three outer paddocks are full, as is the Pro side paddock, so wandering around and seeing the cars up and personal is pretty neat. :D

Ahhhh... That's a disspointment if it is a continuation... (kind of surprised I'm saying that myself... :-) ) Oh well. If it's nice I'll be up there tomorrow. Haven't heard much running today, glad I didn't head up there with the rain and all.

ran up for awhile this morning, as soon as I pulled in it started to rain so I did not stay long. I did take the MK11.

Ah, Entdoc, nice to see "my" old GT40, it looks great, and I miss taking it out for drives.

I stand corrected, and I'm glad I do. I went and visited the Cobra today in the paddock, and it is indeed a real 289 Cobra, CSX-2473, the "winningest 289 Cobra of all time". Very nice man, Mr. Don Roberts, who bought the car in 1966 from it's original owner, James Findlay, as Shelby employee, was very kind to talk to me all about the history and gave me a color print of an article written about the car in the Sept/Oct 2006 Vintage Motorsport Magazine. Thanks to him for sharing a few minutes of his time.

Once again, I guess the weather held back any sort of a crowd, the place was sickeningly "underpopulated" of spectators. Great on track action today.

Anyone go Sunday? cb

Commissioner 05-05-2008 08:20 PM

Sunday

Looked like an overall good crowd on Sunday, probably equal to Sat plus Friday. I think I saw about at least 12-15Cobra replicas at various places in the infield along with Chuck Beck and his 904 replica.
