AC MKIV Fuel Filter

I've decided to replace the fuel filter on my 1985 AC MKIV (AK1058). The fuel line at the rear appears to be approx. 5/16" diameter. I assume I can use a generic filter from someplace like Auto Zone or Advance. Does anyone who has changed the filter on their MKIV have any tips.

Lonnie,

Standard Motorcraft or NAPA/Pep Boys/Autozone etc. Is this really the first time you have changed the filter? I know we changed yours before delivery, as all of the MK IV's had an issue with aluminum particles from the fuel tank clogging the filter, often within 50-100 miles. We started to just replace them after we prepped the cars and test drove them.

I had AUTOWEEK get stranded at Watkins Glen with our BRG demo car when the filter packed up with Bill Lovell test driving the car. A friend of mine drove down, cleaned the lines and changed the filter saviing us form some "bad press" on a Sunday morning.

Clamp off the soft line between the tank and filter to reduce the fuel bath you will take.

Yes, this will be the first time I've replaced the filter. I've got less than 7000 miles on the car and since the filter is out of sight I have not thought about replacing the filter before.

MarkIV,
I don't mean to hijack the thread but I was considering changing my filter before hearing of aluminum particles. Good to know.
And my fuel gauge seems sticky. Is there an issue with the gauge, or sender? Does it stay full for a long time then drop off suddenly?
Thank you,
rodneym
