At the risk of sharing my confusion with minds already eager to strain at the knot, did Sheby initiate the 1000 series for the purpsoe of cataloging the 'continuation' vehicles he initially represented as being constructed on frames remaining when AC Cars ceased building Cobras (circa 1968) and before Brian Angliss purchased the right to the AC name and the company's property?
If I recall the controversy correctly, all of the cars in the 1000 series were constructed in America from the ground up. McCluskey built the cars to Shelby's specifications and had no hand in how Shelby presented them on the market. Shelbys representation of the cars as being constructed in 1966 (the supposed date the frames were built by AC) violated the laws of the state of California regarding registration and date of manufacture.

I believe you are referring to what is commonly known as the "completition cars." Those are quite different than the CSX1000 series cars.
If the bidding starts at 2 million for CSX1001 then the marketing hype is doing a fabulous job, even the completition series cars today don't come anywhere near warranting that price range. $200K maybe, max. It will be interesting to see who get's burned or if anyone is even willing to open the bidding at that price.
Nice ride, nice hype, I aint buying it (the car or the hype). :)

This is only a new series car and not CSX2001 the first one. This is the first car in this series, if in ally I would guess $100-$120 range at auction. This is not a historical relic from the 60's..... 7 figures is out of the question.:eek:

This is one of the English-made aluminum rollers like was discussed earlier (1013 or was it 1017 - they sure are gorgeous though)
This particular car was the first Win-A-Shelby raffle prize.

The comment about the "bidding starts at 2 million" was simply a post by somebody that visited the web page. Is there any confirmation that poster has a clue about the facts? Or is this just another internet rumor, now being spread on THIS forum as well, that the bidding starts at 2 mill?

Pretty neat car and history even if it is not a "vintage 65" cobra. Body hand made by AC on the same wooden bucks in the UK. Finished in Shelby's Las Vegas facility .. much closer to original than the "continuation" cars, even the aluminum bodied ones. Lucky guy won the Shelby Childrens Fund Raffle - and he ALSO has a garage filled with some very nice - vintage - mustang fastbacks and convertibles. Must need to restock the garage and is making room by moving out a really nice cobra. For someone wanting "as close to original" as you can get - this one would seem to fill the bill.

There are wooden bucks, just that the 427's were dumped. If a certain builder of replicas had driven a pick-up, truck or anything apart from a Mini at the time, they would have been saved! The original 289/FIA shape bucks still (allegedly) exist. Pictures of bucks and chassis jigs can be found in my books and similar places.... :-)
