Knockoffs
Autokrafters:
The Halibrand knockoffs (spinners) on my Compomotive (original to car) wheels are beat to sh!t. I tried putting on a Trigo knockoff and if was TOTALLY different. The threads fit but the angle that the Compomotive wheels want are sharper than the Trigo. The contact on the 'knockoff to wheel' is minimal and it only spun on 2 full turns with lots of threads left over. Any of you go through this? |
No Problems with mine, approximately 6 to 7 thread turns on my spinners on the front, maybe 5 to 6 on rear. AC MKIV wheels were specialy built by Halibrand to specifically fit the AC MKIV.
I don't know much about the Compmotive wheel knockoffs. Good luck! |
Thanks for the reply, OldPhart.
We obviously have different wheels. Mine are 16", black coated centers, machined (and coated) lips, say 'Autokraft' on the front and 'Compomotive' on the back. They are not 100% accurate in their spoke style when comparing to Halibrands. The way they approach the hub is different. The original Autokraft spinners, which ironically enough are Halibrand, fit the wheel and hub perfect. The Trigo spinner, which has the same dimensions as my Kirkham machined spinners, are the same, let's say original Cobra style. If you saw the original Halibrand spinner you might say they had additional machining. Where the conical area meets the back of the 3 ears has a sharp(ish) lip. Hopefully I'll get some info from Hawk Cars, England. |

Early MK IVs has an issue with the center lock nuts coming loose. Bob Negstad did a dye trace on his car and found that there was not enough interference angle on the wheel to nut. Bob said you need a one to two degree difference to get proper retention. Autokraft revised the nuts (the wheels were done in expensive pressure casting moulds and could not be changed). |
Mark IV,
I knew you'd have the answer. I thought I was goin nuts. |
Why not just hold off until you get the new Halibrands....

Mark IV,
Gerry at Hawk cars said he was surprised the Trigos didn't fit. That leads me to believe that he may not know what you do about contact pitch/area. And 595 pounds for a set!! That's $975 a set, plus VAT! |
You can get out of VAT if you are shipping to the USA.
