Tire Recommendations for AC Mk IV
I recently purchased my Mk IV and the dealer advised the tires were new. Went through the old service records from prior owner and, while the tires look great with lots of tread, the receipt for the tires (Cooper Cobra) is dated in 1999. So, the tires are 13 years old. I understand that 6 years is the standard shelf life for tires so these are past due. No DOT date on the tires either. Looking for a good driving tire without too aggressive a tread pattern. No racing planned. Just street driving so a tire with a comfortable ride would be great. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks!

What sizes (front and rear) are you looking for?
|
Dunlop sport sp 8000 series, put them on 7113 and never. Looked back, great choice if a bit privet. These were 16 inch series, filled wheel wells and did not screw up speedo readings

JBo, you beat me to the reccomendation, however I'm not sure the Dunlops are still available. They have discontinued numerous 15 and 16" tires in the last couple of years.
Also you need to update your signature location from the land of Snookie to the land of the white belts.........................

Thank you for the recommendation on the Dunlops. I can check to see if they still have them around. The tire sizes are:
Front: 7 X 16 inch wheel; 225/60 VR16
Rear: 8 X 16 inch wheel; 255/60 VR16

Looks like the Dunlop SP Sport 8000s are only available in P205/55ZR16 and P235/45ZR17.
CLICK HERE for Dunlop USA website.
You've got some good options in the front tire size -- e.g., Falken Ziex ZE-912, Michelin Pilot Sport A-S Plus, etc. -- but not much in the rear tire size.

Would not recommend mixing brands. The circumference and rolling height should drive you, not necessarily the size designator.
MKIV, I will update profile when I put the original 427 chassis manual from 3327 up for sale. As you recall this came with car from Paul Nicter.

Thanks to all for your comments. Does not sound like it will be easy to find to right size tires. I will have to see look around at some shops and see what they say. Thank you!

I woiuld bag the 16" and get new 15" wheels and use Dunlop vintage tires or Hoosier DT.

Not easy in 16's.
When I had my Autokraft a year ago, it had the original Goodyears! Dangerous.
I wanted the Dunlops but it wasn't in the stars for 16's.
I settled on BF Goodrich G-Sport. This was last year but I think they're still made in that... Corvette size .
I was happy with those.

Rodney, thanks for the info and I will look into the BFG tires.
