AK1085 diffy

I wanted to start a thread detailing the changes planned for the rear differential of AK1085.
As most of you may know these cars come with a 3.07 rear end which is a bit anemic for use in a cobra type vehicle. Considering many modifications around the motor, which is a 302, there are a plethora of offerings however you’re still gonna be plagued by the fact that the rear end gear is 3.07, fifth gear is not attainable until over 85 miles an hour currently. Common sense dictates the changing the rear end from a 3.07 to a 3.54 should help delivery of the power it currently has. So with the help of Mitchell’s Differential, I took a Diffy from another MKIV and modified it with all new gears, seals and bearings taking it to a 3.54 retaining the original posi-traction rear end. I also have a 3.31 getting re-bearing and re-sealed for possible use of the 3.54 is not what I like. Never hurts to have spares……….. :p Before install I will paint it red with the rear cover black so it at least matches what they once were. |
Jeff,
I have the speedo gear you will need for both ratios. |
Awesome
Project commencing after the 427 install on the other car. |
Will be watching your progress, as I'm watching the market for a second hand "AK" that is currently collecting dust in an owners garage awaiting to be rescued by someone like me with too much time on his hands :D .
Bill S. PS: Any leads, or ideas were to look would be greatly appreciated |

I belong to so many groups, I've lost track. Is it a facebook, forum based, or ???? Feel free to PM me so I can figure out if I belong already or not. Thanks again Bill S. PS: Is this the one where Hurley is trying to rewrite history, over, and over, and over, and over again? If so, I belonged, but left long ago as it was not worth beating my head against the brick wall of his "family legacy". |

Spelling might be off, close if not dead on. Son, grand son, or nephew of the original 60's owners of "AC". His "take" on anything cobra, CS, or later AK related is slightly off kilter. I'll leave it at that. |
