AC Cobra MKIV motor mounts needed

Anyone know what kind of motor mounts or part #'s for a 1986 AC MKIV?
Perhaps a 1986 Mustang GT with the 5.0 H.O.?

Thank you.

Yes,
They are the Mustang units.

There is a difference between coupe and convertable engine mounts. The convertables are better and I would recommend using those.

You're right, Gordon. It looks as though the AC guys may have used coupe mounts, unless they were changed by the original owner before I purchased the car. The convertible mounts look way different and appear to not fit. The replacements I bought fit well.

Thanks for your help. You're knowledge is comforting. :3DSMILE:

Both the coupe and convert mounts will bolt into the same place. The vert mounts tend to be about 1/4" lower. There is much less engine movement from a vert mounts.

Hi Gordon.

Got both motor mounts to compare. The convert mounts have a "tab" on the back to the frame which may have to be shaved to fit. Hard to tell until I'm ready to drop the engine in. I hope there will be no problem with the oil pan (Canton drag race stock looking pan) clearance with the engine 1/4 inch lower. I'll try the vert ones first.

motor mounts

use the coupe mounts not the convt. thats how they were engineered.

There are aftermarket mount with Polyurethane instead of rubber, but what JBo said was right, the convert mounts are different as Ford needed to control NVH more on a ragtop. Even on the early (60s) Mustang converts, the engine mounts were different.

Understand that Brian did things based upon input from Ford and with the "flexi-flyer" AC frame, you don't want to tie the engine down too much as the loads will be fed into parts that were not intended to take such stresses.........

Thanks, guys. I'll use what came on there originally, new coupe mounts.

That's correct. The PU mounts don't work. You can see the difference here:

with PU nearly no space to the frame:

with the normal rubber mounts much better:

Here both together not mounted:
