I emailed this to a friend. He pointed out the stereo option. :)

Cashburn 11-10-2009 12:35 PM

Thanks, we have a couple stereo options, but I prefer the setup this one has ;)

xlr8or 11-10-2009 01:20 PM

I thought the only stereo options were sidepipes or undercar exhaust?

Cashburn 11-10-2009 02:50 PM

Honestly, I have been doing a lot of "stereo" installs in the last 12 months. You can get decent sound and hide it away pretty good. I never thought I would ever want an audio system in a Cobra, until I installed one for a customer in Italy and then on the 2 hour test drive I grew to enjoy it.

where do you install the head unit?...glove box?

Cashburn 11-10-2009 04:30 PM

We've been putting the head units in the trunk. Depending on the overall system the owner opts for. You can see one here:

This was during install so the wiring was not tidied up yet.

Show me the speakers.

Not having a radio is my co-pilot's major objection. I told her to bring her ipod.

Maybe I could find some drive-in-movie-hang-on-the-window speakers and hook them to a 50's buick tube radio. :)

Trueoo7 11-10-2009 06:38 PM

How does one change the station when its in the trunk and yes where are the speakers?

Cashburn 11-10-2009 07:39 PM

Remote display and control is used. In this case it is a round control to complement the gauges in the dash:

We have also done touch screen controls that are simply velcroed to the transmission tunnel (I don't have a great pic on hand). As for the speakers the best locations we have found:

Option 2: If you want a head unit accessible from the passenger compartment and control via remote or iPod:

OK!!!

I'm thinking not a bad mod!!!!

Jay,

Check out the sony xplods with the small wired remote. Do a search under madmaxx i posted my installs somewhere. The stereo mounts in the trunk just like yours but the remote is much smaller and lays between the seats. The best of all worlds is run a mini stereo cable to the stereo and use your ipod in the cockpit, you have all the controls etc.

I love my stereo and could not live without it now. Excellent price, blows my mind, I sold a used one 5 years ago with a 302 and 15" wheels for a couple grand less than you are asking. Incredible deal!!!!!

Cashburn 11-11-2009 05:28 AM

I know exactly what Sony setup you are talking about, but I could not find it anywhere. I think they must have discontinued it? I know they have one with just controls and no display, I like to have some type of display so you know what is going on at the other end. The unit above is Clarion, the unit we are using on a current install is actually Kenwood and has a smaller control that will mount just below the dash:

In regards to the car that started this thread... it is SOLD. I am now trying to figure out how to offer another one with similar equipment for the same price. It might mean a 331 instead.
