When you bought the ERA did you think it was a real Cobra then? ERA even refers to the cars as replicas. You didn't understand it was a kit or replica?

Now you are uncomfortable with the idea its a "kit" or "replica"?

You have a replica of a Cobra. Period. Nothing wrong with that. It is what it is.

Whats rude about the person who asked losing interest after learning its a replica? Sounds like you want more attention for your car and become annoyed when inquirers lose interest because when you refer to it as a replica they walk away. Thats their right to walk away or lose interest. You have the right to decide not to answer if you want or tell them whatever you want.

Sounds like you need to care less about what others think about your car and what interest they have in it and be happy with what you have yourself.

ERAs are beautiful replicas. Enjoy the car and stop worrying what others think.

Just my 2 cents.

Evan, this was your first post on this thread. You must be kidding right? If you were to use the words "kit", "replica" or "real" any more often, then your sentences would read as follows:

"Kit replica kit kit kit, replica, kit replica, replica, replica, real (mine), kit, replica, kit kit replica replica kit kit kit real (mine) replica replica replica replica kit." **)

There is such as thing as reading between the lines too. We know the intent.

Personally, I think you're hilarious. You remind me so much of a relative of mine.

who cares!!!

I didn't buy my car to impress a random stranger or a 12 year old kid.

SO

Who the F*&$% cares, y'all should just shut up and drive!:MECOOL:

I doubt you are being honest with yourself. I can't believe that there's a Cobra owner anywhere who doesn't like the attention his/her car gets. Possible exception, an investor who bought an original for an investment

Besides, nothing in this thread was mentioned about trying to impress anyone. It was aimed at finding short, polite, informative responses for when queries come from the general public, and in particular queries that do not have a black/white answer assocaited with them.

It's just a thread on courtesy to others. It's like "thinking of somebody else for a change".

(oh boy....this could be my death knell.........LOL)

lloyds1 10-09-2009 12:59 PM

BTW, my answer to the question "is it real" is a polite "no". :)

I don't understand why they think a car made in a foreign country built by minimum wage workers or one built in the U.S. by illegal immigrants is better than one built in someones garage with tender loving care.

I'm sure that ERA and some of the others will be interested to know that they shops are full of illegal immigrants!

So did Dirk Pitt. How come nobody ever asks if it's his car? Oh yeah, that's right, unlike James Bond, Dirk Pitt is fictional!

"Where's the stereo?"

"I don't have one."

"Watcha mean, ya don't have one? Man, if I had a car like this, I'd have one big-a$$ stereo in it!"

I explain not only is driving the car entertainment enough, but it can be a handful and distractions arn't something I need.

I just get a blank look.....totally glazed over look.

So......"Why don't you have a stereo?" is yet another question I"ve had a few times.

I point to the big black pipes running below the door and say "Yes, and those are the speakers!"

I would respond with "With only two speakers, it can't be certified as THX."

So if you two guys don't care about what people think about your cars, why did you post pics in the Gallery?

I think you're both trying to sound "tough", but you both secretly like it when your cars get attention.

issues...moi?.......pshaw!

*13* 10-09-2009 04:06 PM

Being real & being proud of it are two different issues. If I wanted to be tough I'd paint it pink so I'd have a reason to fight people. :3DSMILE:

Argess 10-09-2009 04:11 PM

A Mary Kaye Cobra.....probably has been done.

Anyway, that's the point. You are proud of it. Someone asks a question where the answer won't do the car justice. If you're proud of it, then you will want to give a good answer. Unless you don't care about what people think. And if that's so, why post pics in the Gallery?

Anyway.....good one about the pink car....sort of like the "boy named Sue"

*13* 10-09-2009 04:24 PM

No sense in getting creative about your response IMHO. You just end up looking like you are in denial. Say it straight & let's get to the real questions, if they have any

lloyds1 10-09-2009 04:46 PM

But the answer "no" does do the car justice. It's not a "real cobra" but I don't care! I think it is cool and that is all that matters. I posted pics because I think it is fun to see what car everyone is driving on this website. Life is too short to worry about what people think about your Cobra:3DSMILE:

Argess 10-09-2009 06:21 PM

You can avoid my question to you all you want. Come up with evasive reponses. Congratualte each other on your abiliteis to avoid teh question. But the question remains:

If you don't care what people think about your cars, why post pics on the internet?

If you think its fun to see peoples cars, fine, but why post your own pics?

.......hmmmm....this is getting silly. Thread has probably gone far enough for me. Feel free to add to it, (or post the "last word"....LOL) I think I'm done. There was lots of good answers.

Thank-you all.

RodKnock: Maybe I am a relative.

Very simply, I didn't mention anything about my car or the Continuation series at all until others raised it first. My first post was simply a straight answer to a straight question. You can read whatever you want into my first response but you are wrong in your assumption.

I agree with Argess to the extent that we all enjoy the positive attention our cars garner. Anyone who says they don't is...well... not telling the truth. Get real.

lloyds1 10-11-2009 07:17 PM

get real

Ok Real 1, so "lets get real". Here is the definition of the word "replica".
"A replica is a copy that is relatively indistinguishable from the original. "

You have already admitted that your car is not an original, so.....

When someone on the street asks "is that a real one?" what they REALLY want to know is if it is an original cobra that was actually built in the sixties. So if you are so "real", maybe you should modify your response and say, "no it isn't, it is a replica of the original cars that were built in the 60's and it is more expensive than other replicas because it is has an aluminum body and Carrol Shelby built the rolling chassis."

If you enjoy the experience of your car more because you have convinced yourself it is not a replica or that it is more "real" than a Kirkham, ERA or SPF, then it was money well spent.

Hray 10-11-2009 07:30 PM

Interesting thread, my debut for my car will be in february, and I think if asked if the car is real my answer will be,

No it is not real, it is just a toy that I take out and play with once in a while.

Of course all of these canned answers are varied upon the person making the inquiry, I get the question all the time on my street rods, is it steel or plastic, based upon the persons attitude I give appropriate response so as not to offend. Later Ray

*13* 10-11-2009 07:39 PM

I got "the" question on Friday night. The guy got the nerve up to ask the question after standing looking at it for about 10 min. I said "No, It's a replica." Poof! He was gone:LOL:
