Ceramic Coating SidePipes
I am thinking of getting my Sidepipes Ceramic coated with JET-HOT. They are offereing Sterling Silver or Extreme for the side pipes.
Has anyone used this service before or is there someon else that can do it better , less expensive, and faster. They are charging $850 + stripping+shipping. |

My local guy does them for about $250 http://www.directcoating.com . He has a week turnaround and does a nice job. I have been shipping them via UPS in a guitar box. It seems they take a bit more care if they are packing and handling themselves. I have seen some pipes from Jet Hot that had been recoated a couple of times and still weren't covered very well.

I had my headers, side pipes, quick jacks and two roll bars coated at Jet Hot. Great job, 2.5 years ago and still looking great..very little maintenance.

It should cost about $500.00. I've use http://www.xtremeperformanceheatcoatings.com/ several times. They do a great job.

I second N2VENOM - I used Xtreme Coatings as well and paid probably half the cost you indicated from Jet-Hot.
Very happy with the work and great people to work with. Matt |
ceramic coating
local guy did mine last spring. Headers and sidepipes for $300. He would not do the silver, bad for his heath but he did coat them in a dark gray. I liked the silver better but everyone else loves the dark gray with my yellow paint. The gray is a lot easier to keep clean.
They're growing on me. Dwight http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../6-7-09_4_.JPG |
Make sure you get a shipping quote first. Even if they are paying shipping. Rates have really gone up lately. If you have a UPS account it can be considerably less. I shipped a set of light weight bicycle wheels a few weeks ago for $65. The box was heavier than the wheels.

Another alternative, have used them twice, the UPS Store made the corrugate shipping boxes and stuffed with packing material. From Swain's web site:
" Like all of Swain Tech’s coatings, White Lightning™ is a performance improving coating. What makes White Lightning™ the best performance exhaust coating 1) White Lightning™ really is ceramic so the material is a superior insulating material. 2) White Lightning is applied much thicker than any of the cosmetic coatings. White Lightning™ is applied about .015” thick compared to about .002” thick for the cosmetic coatings................." http://www.swaintech.com/store.asp?pid=10969 The material is white only, I then sprayed black with high temp paint. The surface is ceramic, feels like rough sandpaper. |
I had mine done here in Nashville at Nitro Plate. My pipes were powder coated then painted about 10 times and he said it was a ***** to get off. They did an excellent job. $139.00 out the door and an excellent warranty.

How is the luster holding up. I had a person do my original pipes and they have lost their luster
|
Lex....the price of $139 is the lowest that I am aware of. Using Swain's ceramic coating that I mentioned earlier was $350, w/o transportation, about 5 years ago.

Heres their pricing page. I see they went up 2.00 a foot. They said they consider sidepipes as exhaust tubing. Its 16.00 a foot now. They told me they do a major auto manafactures plating for exhaust tips so they keep the prices cheap for the racers. The luster has held up fine.I've seen alot of their headers on dragsters around here. Thats what the owners really in to. I wish I head their plating on my BBK headers because they discolored in about a week.
