Just when I was beginning to think all the good hotrod ideas had been done, along come this. I like it.

Hollywood movie and television star Tommy Ivo began campaigning a twin-engine Buick dragster in the 1950s and later a 4 engine dragster all could have beaten the Cobras.

Thanks for the link. I read about this car in Hot Rod Magazine, but this site really takes you through the build from the very beginning. I wish I had these skills to make stuff like this...I'd never leave the garage!

The build pictures show some innovative thinking, like the headers and the 8-into-1 collectors, and the 2nd engine's radiator location.

What do they use to hook the two engines together?

blykins 12-16-2009 10:35 AM

Chevy engines just require a rubber band. ;-)

If they used Ford engines, they would just need one.

It's a driveshaft coupler; from a GTO I think. It's machined to fit in with the damper of the rear motor. Pretty ingenious really. I think its quite cool and like others, TV Tommy Ivo immediately popped to mind when I saw it.

Frankenstein monstrosities like that area a blast and certainly get your attention for a while but they will never come close to stealing even an iota of the Cobra's thunder and appeal.:)

mdross1 12-16-2009 04:05 PM

Now that would be one serious torque monster

cdnus 12-16-2009 04:22 PM

certainly is a good test bed for 8.8 rear ends.. LOL

Pretty sure its a Dana. I'm thinking a stock 8.8 would pop the first time the thing caught traction...................which prolly ain't often!

cdnus 12-17-2009 07:57 AM

hamr
you'r right, after reviewing I can see that.
I think I had been previously viewing another post about 3 link suspensions & confused the 2 in my aged & somewhat foggy brain.

I was wondering when someone would bring that "UP"

Gunner 12-17-2009 06:16 PM

Yeah, permanent hard-on. Great name for a car.

I wonder if you could tune the engines for different power curves - one with monster low torque and one with brutal high power? Would they cooperate or fight?

lovehamr 12-17-2009 10:05 PM

I heard you're supposed to see a doctor after 4 hours.....................................
