Mustang II steering CR..Best Ratio

What is everybody's opinion as to the best manual rack ratio (Gate To Gate turns)

Ralphy 12-23-2009 11:03 PM

Depends on weight, power steering, tire width and how much muscle your willing to use. However mine is 4 turns (Lock to Lock) manual, and I would like 3.5. It's a little tough now but I think a little less is due.

I have not found a MII that is not 4.

After managing an Auto parts store for a while, got to know a lot of behind the scene stuff.A rebuilt rack is actually better than new.The reason, when rebuilt the bores (aluminum) are machined out and stainless sleeves installed. My 2650 lb car steers great with Mustang II manual rack with quicker ratio.

i could not use a 16 or 18-1 rack in the jbl, too fast. i had to use a 20-1. if anybody wants the 16 or 18 let me know, very low minutes.

Vector, I am needing a replacement. Not quit understanding, Do you have 2 racks?

i think actually it is listed as 15-1, the other is 18-1, yes they are both for sale, i will have to dig up the part numbers.

Okay now my lack of knowledge will come thru. What is a 15 and a 18 rack?
How do they convert to stop to stop wheel turns?

Ralphy 12-25-2009 08:26 PM

HPCOBRA 4 turn is a 19 to 1 ratio I believe. Vector can you find out how many turns? I am interested in the 15 I think.

Are they standard shaft or short shaft?

I run a flamming river unit with a 17 to 1 ratio, works perfect for the street, and on the twisties in the mountains, im running 245 40 17 with a big block, the shorter the ratio the harder the steering will be, the higher the ratio the easier.

Is that a Mustang II rack?
