Gas Tank Fabricator

I'm sure there isn't anyone out there with this wonderful title, but i'm here in dayton, oh and want to have a new gas tank fabricated to had some extra gallons, fix the backing up issue (if possible), change the filler tube location, and exit bung location. Any help.

That would be me..........

You're not very close. What would you suggest we do? My car in a Streetbeast, with the standard crappy tank. I'd like to get 20 gallons or so. The bigger problem is the filler tube and the exit bung(stupid design).

Are there any race car fabricators in your area, or high performance automotive shops. If so, go see if they know can help you.

If worse comes to worse, pull it out and take it to a sheet metal fabricator along with some drawings/sketches of what you want. See if they can do it for you. After all, all it is, is sheetmetal.

A good local sheetmetal shop could do it. I make them from marine grade 5052 aluminum or stainless. You mention fill problems I always vent them with a rollover valve and they should be baffled. They can be built to a good set of drawings or if it's hard for you to draw and measure in the car just make a cardboard mock up.

fuel tanks

For the last 7 years we had a local mechanical contractor shop to build ours. I have drawn up what we wanted and they would built it. Last time Coach took the old tank over and explained what he wanted different. They make them out of aluminum and cost $150 to $225. One for an FFR was a 25.2 gallon tank. The first design would hold 32 gallons so we reduced the height to made the tank smaller.
It helps that the foreman and several of the shop guys are hot rodders. Great guys and have helps us made several parts for our Cobras.

Let me know if I can help even with the design. They're not exactly rocket science but I've made quite a few and have a good working knowledge of some tricks.

When I bought my car I also got all the plans and receipts. The builder designed a 25 gal tank with a forward facing sump so the under side profile slants up from the rear end to rear bumper. It has internal baffels, side fill tub to connect to flip top gas cap mechanism, and all that. It sits partially in the trunk and extends below. In his plans he kept referring to it as a water tank. A small tube close to the top runs from the front outer edge to the resessed center location where the fuel quantity gauge is located . that way the wire and sending unit are protected if you have the spare tire ridding on top of the tank.
