Don - This is my third cobra so I'm not new to the wow factor!! I'm a vette guy also and love the Z but had to have an all out snake before I do a TT Z06. I take pride in my collection of vehicles and it makes me crazy when they are not respected on the road...even our 1917 Dodge Touring. Have a great one!!!

Buzz 12-26-2009 08:50 AM

Seadream is a good way to go, far more intimate and in many ways more luxurious than some of the massive cruise liners. If you feel like trying any of the tours off ship while you are in port, the coastal scenery from the water is beautiful and the diving or snorkelling at Anse Chastanet is fantastic.
On a one day visit, unless you really want to see the rainforest or volcano, I would avoid the long inland bus tours - it's just too much driving on twisty mountain roads and not enough relaxation time. If you do decide to come ashore to Spinnakers or one of the other Rodney Bay restaurants, listen for a lil' blue Cobra with loud pipes! Have a great voyage!

ZOERA-SC7XX 12-26-2009 08:59 AM

I've had nothing but positive reaction from passers by, regardless of age. They hang out the windows, stop in front of other traffic, follow me into gas stations or down the road. Thay all want to acknowledge how cool my car is and if I'm stopped, want to talk. Never had a bad or pissy word by anyone as of yet. I try to just wave to all the vocal admirers and wavers so as not to let them think I'm stuck up. It's a nice car to make friends in.

kurtmart 12-26-2009 09:44 AM

Haven't had much trouble with high end sedan drivers, and most of the rice rockets etc. can be shaken off by heading uphill. (tough in Sacto, I know).

The well meaning types can get annoying though. I spent 50 miles on the I-5 being boxed in by car after car as cell phones were waved at me.
But, I didn't by the car to be subtle so give 'em the thumbs up and smile.
Let's face it mates, we're asking for it.

Kurt

PS Excellent post Buzz, if your ever in LA look me up and we'll play a set or two.

Buzz 12-26-2009 10:00 AM

Thanks Kurt - I sure will. I've only played tennis in California once before, years ago at a tennis club in Redondo Beach. I'll never forget it though - the tennis pro was a green eyed redhead and she drove a Porsche 928 with a tag that read "TZNGRNIZ". I had a hard time deciphering it until I saw her eyes.

Have to add after my last post and the way I drive my Cobra. Most of the time when in my car nothing else in the world exists. It always amazes me just how quick these cars are set up correctly. All of the things I was told to watch out for, spend the time and money, do it right, while building this car paid off.Fine tuning the suspension, dialing in the motor, the brakes (one of the most important systems in the car)also paid big dividends. Not having to hold back ,by having the confidence in the machine to not let me down,is worth every minute spent achieving that level of craftsmanship.
Anyone that asks if it is a kit makes me chuckle, depending on my mood, or the person asking sometimes,I say: It's better than an original,in so many ways you would not understand if I tried to explain. Most of the time it's "look the car over then you tell me if it is an original" No matter,it draws lots of attention, like so many of my other toys do,and I enjoy talking with most all, except the PinHeads!

poisonsnake 12-26-2009 11:40 AM

As I said before...this is my third snake and a show stopper! I love talking with all ages about the vehicle and probably spend too much time educating people but it's my nature. I too get tons of positive comments but it's the lack of courtesy and respect on the road that makes me insane. As I said, I'm obsessed with my cobra! It does not help that my second car was totaled by someone talking on their cell phone..so I'm a little paranoid!

*13* 12-26-2009 11:47 AM

It pays to be paranoid! Some really bad drivers out there!

Aside from the occasional pseudo-urban youth in a WRX, I'd have to say the bulk of the idiocy I see on the roads has nothing to do with my Cobra. I, too, get a lot of thumbs up and complements. However, teenagers texting (just today) or people on their cell phones, or just your basic narcisist-behind-the-wheel cause the bulk of the problems.

I get really annoyed by people that tailgate me while I'm in the Cobra 'cause I feel like they're crawling right up my tail-pipe. Usually, it's just their inflated sense of self-importance that drives the behavior. I pitty the people that have to live with and interact with these people on a regular basis.

The nice thing is that with the Cobra, if I don't like the idiots around me, I can open it up a bit and find some idiot-free open road.

Cell phones have really robbed drivers of their attention while driving. I see it all here in ATL and almost every accident I see, someone is yakin on a cell phone without a headset or texting. I drive my cobra like I ride my bike; everyone is out to kill me

Sure, the modified ones get crazy horsepower. Most boneheads wanting to race me are sporting off-the-shelf power---and their daddy bought it for them for their high school graduation.

Pimpy, though, with the gold bling hanging from the rear-view mirror, but it goes along with their "urban youth" look/attire (which is odd, 'cause most of them still live with their parents in upscale Los Gatos...).

Out of the box they are 250 rwhp,2900lbs,all wheel drive with a 4.4 something gear. They are nothing to laugh at.Except when a 17 YO is driving. Then you just take the side street.

So,a 1400 HP street car is JUST respectable?!!!!That car would clean the clocks of 99 out of 100 Cobras.

No sale. The cell phone is just more visible. It points out people who can't walk and chew gum. It's nothing more than a distraction in the hands of idiots.IDIOTS (can't multi-task)being the operative word.

I was circled the other day by a new audi R8 on Hwy 280.

I think he had the look in his eye - darn I bought the wrong car.

Steve

Bernica 12-26-2009 04:29 PM

A friend of mine has an R8. We haven't raced, but he loves to tell me that he'll give me the start and the straights, then kill me in the turns.
We'll see sometime:cool:......

Your math escapes me. Using RWHP, your example has a P/W ratio of 11.6.

Mine and many Cobras here is 5.6. That's 200+ more RWHP and 250 less pounds.

EVOs and WRX's on spray get small in my mirrors.

In street racing, nothing is linear.Obviously, you aren't too versed in it.

My WRX reference was a starting point. From there they get faster-much faster.

And thanks for turning my statement into a "blanket"one-which it wasn't.

And i have a 189CI straight 6 that will run away and hide from your car-Yer point?

...Which is why I normally spot them one zip code. That's a good conclusion to jump to-I must have forgotten how. Started 40 years ago.

Your charm is exceeded only by your numb nuts.

[quote=Gunner;1012649]Call me a wuss, but two cars I would avoid tangling with are the WRX STi and any Lotus Elite/Exige/Etc. They aren't necessarily superior numerically but in the right hands I think they would be very tough street competition, moreso even than most Ferraris and Lambos.

I happened to get into it with a new lotus this summer. I was not confident at all given the size of them. Anyway, I blew the guy's doors off so bad, I let up so he could catch up then I ripped him a new one a second time. He caught up to me at a light. With an amazed look he said "What in the hell is that thing" His beautiful girlfriend was next to him and she looked equally as impressed....:MECOOL:

Wow, Cobrabill, are you this personable in real-life? You think you might want to be a little more antagonistic?

Yes, there are some fast cars out there. Yes, some, many, will beat a Cobra. A stock WRX? Nah, not with some of the equipment I see under the hoods of my Cobra-buddy's cars.

Of course, if you're talking from experience, then please, do tell the tale of when the WRX showed you and your Cobra the way home. I'd like to hear it.

1)I stand corrected.I thought we were talking about a heads up race-i didn't know you we're "rigging the game".I should guessed.
2)I jumped to nothing.Your posts illustrate that.
3)I started 44 years ago.
4)And yours is only exceeded by your witless attempts at insults.

Your "arrogance of the marque" also shows what is wrong with a lot of Cobra owners.

1)Absolutely.:rolleyes:Sometimes the ignorance on this board just astounds me-although,it shouldn't.And don't confuse the message with the messenger
2)Nahhhh,that would require some effort.;)
3)What is being said here,is that ALL Cobras will beat ALL stock WRX's.Simply not true.
4)Hasn't happened.

There are some Cobras around here(Tucson) that would get spanked off the line(as would most) and probably wouldn't be able to "reel him" in.
