What is the problem? And how do I fix it?
With the cobra up on stands for the winter, I wanted to try to fix a few things. One of which looks to be a slave cylinder, I think. If you would, please take a look at the photos and give me your thoughts on what may be going on here and how to fix it if necessary. I am not real mechanically inclined but I'm learning as I go. Thanks for the input.

Slave cylinder leaking and not perpindicular to clutch arm. If you have a tko 600 get in to contact with greater cincinnati performance cars, bill sells a nice set up. The reason it is leaking is the push rod is going at an angle. You could just replace the slave every couple years, if you dont want too get it perpindicular and your leak will disappear.
You may be able to modify your bracket, that is what i did. |
Like madmaxx said. If the push rod is not pushing square on the piston in the slave cylinder, it will put side loads on the slave cylinder. This can cause it to wear unevenly and start leaking sooner rather than later. As the clutch fork position cannot be easily changed, look to see if the position of the slave cylinder or its mounting bracket can be adjusted.

Thanks, I saw Bill's plate on the forum when i was trying to research this and pulled it up on gcperf.com. If I get the plate will it solve the problem currently or will I have to put a new slave cylinder on? And for the dumbest question on the day, if I pull the slave, will I lose on that fluid and then have to refill and bleed the line. I've never done that before and would have to educate myself on that. Thanks again.

Yes his comes with a new slave included in the price. they cost about $22 at autozone so reworking yours with a cylinder hone is probably not a big cost benefit even though I did and has not leaked a drop in over a year.
You will loose the clutch fluid. Youi can put a piece of saran wrap over your reservoir and screw the lid back on but you are going to have to bleed. You do not want the system going empty or you might have to bench bleed your clutch master cylinder soooo 1) saran wrap on reservoir 2) repair/replace/modifiy bracket to ensure perpindicular action, remove slave. some will drip out but system will not empty with saran wrap 3) install new slave and rehook hydraulic line 4) bleed system until fresh clean fluid comes out. |
Thanks, we'll give it a shot. I'm not sure about Bill's bracket. It is for Superformance or Backdraft, or do you think I can just mount it as is. I didn't pay attention to where mine was located but I believe off the lakewood bellhousing.

While you're at it, you might want to fab up a pushrod that doesn't have threads where it rides on the rubber dust seal. May not be the cause of the leak, but may allow foreign material into the bore and lead to leaks over time. Just a thought.

Steve Take a look at this thread: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...hreadid=102101 |
I just got back from Bills. His setup is for a pull slave vs. a push. He did however have the slave I needed. I figure I'll try to set this slave up and if that doesn't work, I'll change out the whole thing, ie bellhousing, fork, slave, bracket, etc. Thanks for all the suggestions.
