Clutch Slave Cylinder

I've been trying to find a supplier for a replacement clutch slave cylinder for my SPF. Does anyone out there know of a supplier? Couldn't find anything at Hillbank and Shelby Shop.net.

give Bill a call at gcperf.com , he has two different types for sale on his site. I emailed him a month ago for some info , couldn't wait any longer so I purchased a different one. his looks very clean and comes with a aluminum mount bracket

Napa part #37833

I just swapped mine out for this one. You might consider replacing the rod with a 3/8 in threaded rod with locking nuts so that you will have some adjustability.

what does the original look like >? there are many flavors out there.

My favorite is the Wilwood pull cylinder.

Ok, I can't resist weighing in even though there are TONS of threads. Almost too many...
I find myself in the same boat with a leaking slave. Current is a Girling 7/8", which came with the Shelby. Been fighting it on travel, but can't be sure if that's just air in the lines or what. I pressure bled the system, and promptly got a leak in the slave.
Part ##'s and source for a replacement for this 7/8" Girling? Are rebuild kits reliable?? Or, a bolt-on replacement and source?
Sorry, I know it's somewhere in the threads....

Do you know the size of the clutch master cylinder?

kris-kincaid 02-12-2010 10:37 AM

Dave Bean has the genuine Girling slaves. They list them as a Sunbeam Tiger part, and they seem to be a bit better than the Shelby part. The only one I've ever seen fail had the rubber on the piston hardened. I had a spare piston, put it in and all is well. Maybe you can get a new piston or rubber seal?

BTW, we should probably start a new thread on this. :)

What type of fluid goes in the clutch slave cylinder? It it pretty much the same for all units?

Just use Dot 3 fluid. Many on this site like the Castrol GT LMA fluid. I like it. Use it for brake and clutch cylinders.

Thank you.

Sorry for the delay in responding. The clutch master is a 3/4" Afco, and the slave is a 7/8" Girling...

strictlypersonl 02-16-2010 01:48 PM

We use equal diameter cylinders, giving (assuming equal pedal ratios...) about 36% more throw at the throwout arm.

Bernica 02-16-2010 02:01 PM

Good to know. I'm just about to go find a new slave. Thanks very much!

Gee, I wonder why it was leaking fluid????

Bernica 02-16-2010 03:56 PM

Interesting that when I measure the inside bore of my Girling slave cylinder with a dial indicator, I get about .72" (close to 3/4"), but it says 7/8" on the casting number. Same measurement on the piston. Am I measuring incorrectly?

Wildwood and Tilton can supply you with any thing you need to make it happen keep in mind that the master should be slightly smaller than the slave this will assure more pressure to the slave .Otherwise you will have a hard pedal very hard.

I went down to local brake and friction shop. They had a replacment right there, evan plated finish and new snug fitting billows, better than original. It isn't that exotic a part. Do not go the Shucks route with the kids behind the counter. They will never identify the part with the usual questions.
