Looking for XKE XJ6 IRS expert
I understood that all brake rotors from about 1970 to about 1984 are the same.
My rotors are drilled with holes roughly 2 7/16" apart and 2 7/8" apart in a rectangular pattern. And there are two additional holes that are 15/16" in diameter. I may be a little bit off on my measurements. I don't use the 15/16 holes as my calipers bolt from the inside(From the pinion side) directly to the diff housing. I purchased new rotors last week for a 1970 XJ6 IRS and what arrived are rotors drilled with four holes in a square bolt hole pattern of 2 21/32" hole centers. The supplier states that this is correct and is the only rotor that they carry for 1970 to 1984 XJ6, XJ12, XJS & XKE. I have seen some photos of Jag Rotors and I can only recall the rectangular hole pattern with the two extra large holes. Can anyone shed some light, model numbers and series of vehicles that have common rotors and what is the hole spacing? Would appreciate all help and comments. Thanks, Arthur |
The discs with the extra big holes are used on the Dana center section. Those two large holes are used to remove the calipers which bolt directly to the casing and not a an aluminum bracket.
Most of the aftermarket/replacement discs come with the extra holes. The discs with the square drillings are for the Salisbury centre. John |
The correct pattern is rectangular on a 3.75" circle. Holes spaced by 100 deg and 80 deg. (Net 2.873" x ,2.410")

Do you know what years & models the square pattern fits? Thanks, Arthur |

Do you know any websites that shows details or descriptions of the applications for the two different patterns? The supplier of the new rotors that I bought claims that the only pattern that exists are the square bolt pattern. They know nothing about the rectangular pattern and want to charge me $32.00 + shipping to take them back. I may be better off having them re-drilled if that's the case. But it sure would be easier getting them to send me the correct rotors. Arthur |
The only alternate reality (assuming that the rotor is not mis-boxed) is that the rotor is for a early E-Type (~'61-'64), which did not have the hole for caliper bracket access. But that joint used the same u-joint cross as the later ones. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on the early flange, which determines the bolt pattern. Frankly, I doubt whether it's different.

Thanks everyone for your help. The supplier is looking into it and perhaps they can find the correct ones for me. Or take back the ones that don't fit without the restocking fee.
Will post updates. Arthur |
Try XKE Unlimited in Montery Calif they have everything and also race Xke Cars.

The Internet brake component supplier finally resolved my 'Wrong' Rotor issue. But took a month and I had to push them every step of the way. They stood firm, did not really care what was sent, just said that they sent what their book said and I was wrong. The attitude towards customer service, in my opinion was dismal. And the boiler plate responses via email showed a total lack of individual care. All the proof was up to me including paying the $26.00 to send them back. The correct rotors rotors did finally arrive. But they stiffed me of the free brake pads and told me it only went with the original sale and refused to refund me the $26.00 to return the wrong rotors.
Finally I lost it. Called them and told them that I would simply report my story on an internet forum and allow the readers to hear my story. Within minutes I got a phone call back. My return shipping was refunded and they then mistakenly sent me two sets of free pads shipped a few days apart. I guess all's wells that ends well. Now on the opposite end of the spectrum, I went to Terry's Jaguar from a link posted above to purchase a caliper repair kit. Like night & day and it restores ones faith in customer service. I was spending a meager $25.00 The care & followup by Jake was outstanding. Jake, I apologize for using your name but Thank you so much and I hope this little pitch brings you more business. http://www.terrysjag.com/ Arthur Mitchell |
